I'm building a foam cutter with an 8'x10' bed, designing and machining my own parts etc. Do I need some kind of insulator at both ends of my nichrome wire? Will the heat from the wire melt the isulation from the plastic on the feeder wire? Will it harm the spring? I don't know beans about this part of it as have never built one before. These are some shots of the machine and some parts.
Greetings All,

I do not know how many of you know about the Dollar Tree Foam Board. The foam board is 20x30 inches and about 5mm (.187 in) It has a paper backing which peels off rather easy. You can leave it on but it is 1 ounce per paper side, don't remember the weight before you peel off the foam or after (I will weight it if anybody is interested and post it here). It is great to draw on but if you need light peel it off. The foam reminds me of the older Cell Foam. It has a satin finish...
If anyone has used it on a plane feel free to chime in.
With Depron at almost 7 dollars a sheet now and FFF being only 50 dollars for 25 sheets it only makes sense to use the DOW foam.
I figure maybe spraying the foamie with the styro spray and seeing how that works for a nice finish.

They don't carry it any more. But, they did have Krylon H2O spray Latex (foam safe) on clearance. I bought a half dozen cans in basic colors (looks better than Dow Blue LOL) for $2.15 a can. That's about $3.50 off. I have used this to make train and slotcar layouts out of Blucore for displays in my stores. It works great. If you have a Hobby...

I cut some 9mm EPP yesterday on my MKII. EPP is costly and losing 6'' of every sheet just won't do. I hot glued some scrap 9mm Epp about 4'' wide to the end of the good sheet. I also started the cut with the front edge of the foam right under the front roller. On a 24''x36'' sheet I got away with a safe cutting area of 23''x34''. My cutting speed was 75ipm, the cut was acceptable but not as clean as I would like, next time I will try 65ipm. This was 1.9lb density Epp.

Next Generation Blue-Cor
It's called DoW high performance fanfold P/P
It can be found at some, not all of the Allied building supply stores.
http://www.alliedbuilding.com/about/alliedBranches.asp
It is kinda pricy being $47.80 plus tax but it is some mucho awesome stuff.
Their part number is 69380020
The sides are 90% cut at the fold which really makes it easy to get a nice square sheet cut off.
Waves are almost non-existant...

well not really free but cheap.....and it looks like depron, not sure if is is. went to the dollar store and picked up 8 sheets of what they call "foam board" it has one side with colored paper on it, and one side plain white. first you remove the colored side....best done by rolling it off.....then on the white side, soak with windex, wait about 3 mins. and it darn near slips off the foam. you end up with a 20in.x30in. 4.5mm thick of some nice flat phlatprinter food. oh yea, i paid $1.10...
