when I go to save a gcode in sketchucam it automatically starts the gcode plotter plugin. my problem is when it does that I get an access violation that states" access violation at address 5433f3c9 in module 'atioglxx.dll'. read of address 00000018". preventing the gcode plotter from working correctly. please help. very new to this CAM.

The atioglxx.dll file is part of your graphics card drivers.
    Update your graphics card drivers.
    then
in Sketchucam, turn off 'open Gcode viewer' so it does not open automatically after gcode generation.
    generate some Gcode
    close Sketchup
open a file browser and search for gplot.exe
when it is found, run it and load the saved gcode
    does it still crash?
if it does, and there is no upgrade for your graphics drivers, maybe you should just replace this simple gcode viewer with the planet-cnc software - read the Sketchucam help for how to integrate it into Sketchucam instead of gplot.exe.

if it didn't crash, then that means there is some interaction with sketchup, and possibly the autostart process.
try starting it from the 'plugins' menu instead of autostarting.

also, Google for the dll file name and you will find many mentions of it, and problems relating to it, maybe one of the pages has a solution for you, maybe just an option setting that needs to change, or an OpenGL setting.
Note that while this gplot.exe program is part of the SketchUcam package, we don't have source code for it and so cannot possibly fix any inherent bug it may have, however, your problem is a faulty graphics driver rather than gplot.exe program itself, which runs even on my Linux machine.

thanks. the graphics update worked. I was skeptical at first bc my card is only a couple months old. didn't realize it was time to update and I do exactly understand the code format. I do appreciate the help though.
