Just finished a model, its more or less free fantasy and i dont really know how good it will be in the air. But im done with it at least, and its ready to get printed. I've made it for 3mm depron 1/16" bit, and the sheets are 125cmx70cm. Havent generated any gcode for it yet, just marked the parts The idea is that i needed something to do 3d, and by that something thats easy and quick to assemble, also i wanted to try an idea for mounting wheels, and well this is what it turned out to be. Any feedback appreciated -tsknutsen Ps. ive edited the original sketch i posted, and removed it. This is the flying thing, ive tested it a bit, and it handles good by my standards, though im not the most picky of pilots... Attached files uglycode003.skp (677 KB)Â
tsknutsen, I love the fantasy style aircraft. To be honest I love any design that pushes the limits of whats considered a normal style craft This is one crazy cool looking plane and I can't wait to see it fly. The way I test fly craft that are considered to be different. Is to do the maiden, and do what ever I can to get it fly the best that it can. Sometimes that means it will not fly at all, but you can still move your cg by adjusting your battery etc. and take the best result you get from these flights or non flights. Then I just start tearing parts off or even gluing parts on where it seems it may help. Do that until till you get it to the best shape for that craft flying you can. Then go back to the drawing board (Sketchup) and redesign this new version you have made. Do this a few times and you would be amazed at some of the things you can get to fly. Hope this help you out a little Good luck with the build and maiden Mark
Thanks a lot for the reply Mark, you are really good at motivating i guess i will get to try it in a coupple of weeks, as we have schedueled time at a school's gymnastics hall then, i will post a vid shortely afterwards
I have tested it today, and well. It didnt work fly really well. Or rather. it flew and handled great, but that was when i removed the plate from the underside.. The plate underneath made the ailerons nearly inert. Didnt get to fil it though, and i went home with the plane in a plastic bag .. so back to the drawingboard :=)
Look on the bright side, at least all you have to do is tweak your design in Sketchup and print another one
Hehe, its something that started happening alot more often after we got the phlatprinter.. its just too cheap and too easy making new planes ... Anywho, i've finished the edit now. it turned out to be more of a common plane type than i originally hoped for when doing the first draft, but this is what i ended up with in the hall, and well it was not bad to fly at all.. until a mate of mine with an epp plane trashed this littile depron thingy completely while we where playing some sort "cut the tail" game.. im editing the original post with the new file, and deleting the other files i've uploaded.. so that people wont get the faulty design
Nicely done tsknutsen! Are you planing on removing the bottom section that used to hold the little wing on? Mark p.s. added a screenshot so others can view it
Thanks, actually i did remove the bottom section somewhat on the parts. just didnt get around to edit the representation of the plane. By removing it i mean i rounded it and removed the tab. I figuered that as the wing is rather large for such a small plane, and the bottom section is a bit in the front of cg it does not make the plane as back heavy as it would be without. Besides i kept in on after removing the little wing while flying it, and i just figuered i'd keep it on. I've edited the reprecentation. also while doing that i noticed that my tabs where bad, and that i didnt account for the parts in between the two body parts. uploded yet another with the 3mm accounted for
