Here is a new project I'm starting.
I decided to do a 50% Speedy. It's out of 3mm foam. All the parts are cut and ready for assembly. I am waiting on a better motor to fly it but I might just fly it with the one I got in the pics until then.
    Here are some pics.

Is that the 2000 kv 10 gramish motor? I bought one without a project in mind, just to fill out the remaining shipping class that I'm not sure what to do with. Maybe a micro speedy would be a cool project? I was thinking of trying it in a Multiplex Fox chuck glider, but this might be even cooler!

    It sure is.
I have a higher kv motor coming for it but this motor should do well with it.

Well that should be a fun and visually challenging fly. The kit looks well prepped also.

I've bought, flown, rewound, and toasted a few of those 10gr motors in the quest for a 1M vertical launch glider. Stock they are good to about 80W 10sec burst. They will cruise all day at 50w. Drop a wire gauge or three and pack in 18-20 winds in 'Y' and it should do 2600kv and edge 100W short burst on a 4x3+. At least that was what the one I made did. Here is what they all look like after the party. In the end I went to the 15gr bigger brother and power is no longer the issue with a small bump in weight and better prop selection. Thanks for the comments guys.

This will be a visual challenge for sure.
I'm almost done building it and should be able to get a maiden on it this weekend with some video.

Tbird, I got a couple of smoked motors like that too. My 10 gram one has hardly had any time on it, and it won't be on the Speedy for long either. It's higher kv replacement is on its way.
I need to get some wire to start rewinding some of my burnt motors. It doesn't look to hard to do, just time consuming.

It's not to hard at all, but it does take practice. It took me two tries to get my first 10gr (1811) to run. After that, all the other bigger motors were easy.

For many motors I used the wire from Radio Shack that comes in three different sizes. Cheap and easy to experiment with. Seemed to do alright for mild use. Then an old timer engineer gave me a few yards of this good mil grade stuff, worked much better. He may have more, I'll ask.

Maybe keep a corner thought open to the 15gr if the 10gr disappoints, waaaaaaay better power, easier to rewind by a factor of 10, runs much cooler, and it uses the same mount and shaft dia. ;)

Well I got a chance to fly the 1/2 pint Speedy Saturday. I still need to edit the video but it flew after some trial an errors, and errors, and errors lol. These micro planes can be a bit tricky. I had too big a prop initially and the cg was off but needless to say it has some good potential. I got my other motor in for it yesterday. I put it on and made some repairs to the nose, so it should be good for this weekend again.
I'll try to get the video up by Thursday.
For now here are some pics.

Wow the pencil really gives you an understanding of how small the plane actually is. I couldn't see it let alone fly it. Nice one Shaun.

    Thanks Buk.
The guys at the field kept saying they couldn't see it when I was flying it. Good thing I could  .

Small planes make big challenges. No time to relax, little time to trim. I flew from a tray just so I could trim with my left hand. With something that clean and small anything over a minute of airtime per flight I'd call a success.

No speed readings yet Mark, but I am guessing it was around 60-70mph. I hope to get the video done by tonight.
Tbird, I had a good 3-4 min flight on my last try so I'd say it was a success too. You aren't kidding about trying to trim it too. It was a little off and needed some trim adjustments...that was fun lol.

Its funny, looking at the picture it almost looks like EPP instead of depron. Looks great, where is the SKP :)

I need to get some epp on my next foam order. I have not built any planes with it yet, and I bet this one would do alright with it. I will be posting the files for it after I see how things go this next flight. With the electronics I chose for it, it could really stand to be just a tiny bit bigger. I had to carve a little foam out where the servos are because the top plate was hitting them. I will probably do that before I post the files as well.

Only when I saw it in the hand of the launcher did I realize how tiny it is. Barely bigger than the palm of his hand. For me, that is the size for an indoor, maybe. You know, the one you fly in your living room. :D Nice work, my man.

Cool Shaun! Now if you only had a long gym you could do the speed trials in! :)
Looks like you are getting it dial in!
    Nice job
