    Buk,
I was trying to upload the ones I have 6, 7 maintenance release, 7, 7.1
But it will not add them for some reason. I have the board limit set to 50 meg so it should work as they are 32.
hmm not sure I am going to have to try again

Hey guys, My brother has a licensed version of Sketchup and it is the Pro 6.4.112
Would I gain anything if I go back to this older file, I really want to be able to export DXF files and whatever else there is to offer for us!! Also would I lose any info going backwards!!

    Thanks
    John

While I don't test anything on older versions of SU I also haven't used any API features introduced in newer versions. The Code Crunchers here tend to use different versions (luckily) so glaring bugs should be noticed. I am not sure if anyone is using 6.x.

I would like to keep the script working under all "known" versions of SU. If you decide to go with it make sure you post any bugs or problems so that they can be worked out. One thing I know will never be fixed in the older versions is the ability to detect if a polygon was drawn with the circle or polygon tool. This is the problem you had where drag triangles were cutting with G2/3 codes and you ended up with rounded lines (meaning you have to explode those triangles). SU has the ability in the latest 7.1 version to detect those tool differences but they haven't been incorporated into the script yet.

Having said that, I make a living writing software. Please make sure if you decide to use this version you have a valid license. No matter what I'll do my best to support whatever version of SU PP owners are using.

John if you need to export dxf from the new version just use this plugin
    viewtopic.php?f=103&t=95&start=0
    -Exporting to DXF and STL
Once installed it resides under the Tools folder not the Plugins. For flat 2d dxf file just export as lines.

I'm with Mark on this one.
Just use the free plugin to make the dxf's.

Sounds great Tim, I am not sure I will be using it as of yet because I have so many saved files I fear they may got lost or corrupted!! I will let you know and because my brother has a computer store he buys so many programs its sick!! He said he may have pro 7 but not sure until tomorrow!!

Mark, thank you so much, I will have to try this out with files I need converted! I just am making custom wood hardware and it is much nicer getting them made with a laser instead of the time involved on the PP !!! This may be the only reason I needed to upgrade :)

    Thanks guys!!

The version I had of the dxf export plugin, also only had one choice and then would open a box where I had a pull down menu. Here is a screencap from one of my videos showing it in the menu:

Mine was different than that one it just has a export to dxf and stl file and when you open them you then go through a series of drop menus to choose your parameters !!!

Kwok, did you ever make a cut path on a part and duplicate it and the face dissapears? I am making another plane and when I made the Gcode for it ,it shows a path for the part even though it has no face in the SKP file !!! Oh these little bugs LOL :D

    Thanks

John, that's the same way my dxf plugin worked. Maybe I didn't explain well. I know there are 2 verions of the plugin and I think the you & I are using the newer one. I have the older one, but never tried it.

No I can't say, I've ever had a face disappear by copying a part. Could be a face is only need to generate the phlatline? And the phlatline is only needed to generate the gcode? I will know more, as I dig into the script.

Once again, this is correct. The face is used to locate where in/outside cuts are allowed. Once the cut line is made it doesn't matter if the face is deleted (or the original edges from which the cut line was made). Any edges that are not phlatlines are tossed out of the tree in the first stage of gcode generation (LoopNodeFromEntities in GcodeUtil.rb).

Thats good to know Kwok!! This happens to me from time to time, but only if I copy a piece with cut path attached... I wonder why it does this? Either way the file is fine and i cut the parts with no issues!! :)

Same here. Was using SU7 for the last few years. This is cleaner and much faster-without compromising workflow.
