here is the skp file for my multi-shot drop box.

this was just a proof of concept build, I plan on putting it into a plane later. This could also be designed into the fuse of a plane for a permanent bomber! Attached files [IMG] [IMG] bombdropper.skp (187 KB)Â

    This is too cool!
I am going to work that up! This is right up my alley :)
    Thanks browndodge

Here are a couple more pics

BTW Do you have any shots or movie of it working, I need to see what the servo looks like in both positions so that I can work with the design. Thanks man

I don't have any vid of it working right now, but I can tell you that I started with the servo arm centered (90 degrees from side of servo) and use the retract channel to operate it using full servo travel. Two of the photos show the two opposite servo positions.

i've aleady begun working on putting it in a plane too!

    sounds good man
Thanks for the servo info now I can kinda grasp how it works, I do not understand the function of the rubberband though unless it to there to pull the locking arm up against the gear so that it can't turn back the other way?
    Thanks

Looks like it. And also to keep the pulling arm against the gear. Killing two birds with one stone, ingenious! Reminds me of a fish feeder.

Yes, the rubber band keeps both levers pulled against the gear. I have started putting the mechanism into a plane, more info here : http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=979303

btw if anyone needs drawings of gears, real ones, not like this simple sprocket, let me know what dia and tooth pitch and I'll try to send you a .dxf or .skp of them!

Thanks browndodge, after I looked at it a little more I did figure it out :)

That is cool of you to do, thanks man I will keep that in mind.
Also if you have any gears or any DXF files you want to share you can always post them in the free dxf/pdf thread here viewforum.php?f=68&start=0

This may be a shot in the dark but, I myself am looking for something really unusual but who knows you may have it, there was a simple program out there that would allow for non-circular gear and you could type in a few parameters and create a vector image of these gears. I cannot find it anywhere now and I really wanted to mess around with some non-circular foam gears like this :)
Here's a pic of what one example I would like to make would be

Those are some strange gears! but cool, kind of like a wankel engine.

anyway the plane is almost ready to try out, just need some time and good weather. i may look for some little plastic parachute guys the dollar store too!

Kram- we have a couple of programs that will generate gears, but neither will automatically do anything but round. I would have to create a separate gear for each radius and cut-n-paste them together.
