If you received spam mail from me, I apologize, seems someone hacked my G-mail account and sent out hundreds of spam mail. I have tried to determine if I have a keystroke logger on my pc but have been unable to locate one if it exists. I have used 3 different virus programs and 4 different malware/spyware scanners to no avail. I am really concerned because just last Friday my World of Warcraft account was hacked and all my characters got deleted. I may have to wipe my system and do a full reload of my OS
Jeff and everyone else, Same thing happened to me today at about 11:30 am est. only contacts from my gmail account got spamed. Same results as you, No virus/malware/spyware. Hard to imagine, but maybe google got hacked? Seems I am glad I have a couple of bad contacts so the undeliverable mail got returned to me.
Jeff, I just did some digging, seems there is prolly a hole in security somewhere not related to your puter. from what I can tell, I was hacked from a mobile in Hungray. About all we can do is change passwords and sec question.
Hmm, interesting, do you access your e-mail thru a smartphone? I use the Droid X so I wonder if someone is reading my data stream
I do, iphone 3g. I read people complaining it has something to do with the gmail mobile but of course google wont acknowledge it. Hopefully they are at least trying to fix it even if they won't admit to it. I figure I will give them 1 more chance, but hack me again and I'm finding someone else. And it does seem to me they know something is amiss, seems like it was just several months ago I noticed the "IP of last account access" at the bottom of the main mail screen. When I hit details, sure enough someone in Hungry accessed at about 10:20 am.
HUmmm Very interesting... I use a Droid to access my gmail also.. Will have to change the PWD occasionally. Silly question, but are your passwords dictionary words? Do you have the option checked for alert me of suspicious behavior? THANKS for the heads up.
Idk if my word part is in the dictonary. But I also have numbers after. You can sure bet my new password is not a real word at all. So it is for sure a stronger one. The heads up no prob, when I saw you post it made me feel a bit better, so I thought it might help to ease your nerves a bit too. Also didn't want you to go throughthe hassle of rebuilding your puter for no reason.
Just to let you guys know you are not the only ones who have had this happen, we have received two emails from two separate people with the same virus attached. Its out there Thanks for the heads up Mark and Trish
Wow, I just checked my routers logfile and am stunned by how many people have tried to hit my router address with DoS (Denial of Service) attacks. There are at least 20 a day for at least the last month. It's just amazing that there are so many people out there that love to cause an innocent person heartache and pain just so they can get a kick out of doing things like this.
Guys, As tech support for a large internet company let me chime in and just say that this is a server issue on the part of gmail. You didn't get hacked on your computer there server was hacked. PLEASE don't go do something you will regret by reformatting your drives and loosing everything as this is not the issue. Best course is to change your password often to something with at least 8 letters with numbers and at least one special character. We;re not allowed to write any password down and I usually have at least 15 and sometimes 20 tools open during a session meaning I have to remember all 20 passwords. Not really that hard if you think about it. Just remember to change your password about every 30 days or it will get stolen or hacked.
Thanks starcad, good to know it wasn't my side. I didn't think it was, but it's awesome to have someone "in the know" confirm that.
Hey Bert, One more thing I heard the other day at the center. A lady called in and had something like 40 spam emails in her out box( g-mail acct btw ). They all contained a link to some over seas drug company . We told her to delete all the spam and we did a reset of her password and then walked her through how to change her password on her own. The big thing these day is to have a very secure password. Never use something like "admin" for the user name and "password" for the password. If you have a router make sure you are secure with either WEP or WPA protection and Name your router and change the log on. BE SURE TO WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN and put it in a safe place where you know you can find it again as you will need it. These people that do this are not after your passwords there after your information, cc numbers soc and what ever they can get to steal your identity and they can sell it in there country for what would be big bucks ( a couple of dollars here ). One of the best rules of thumb is if it looks like 'Spam' it's spam. Delete it and move on without opening it. Only open email from those you trust and know. If you guys need any assistance please let me know as I will be around here just IM me and I will give it my best shot as resolving issues. Guy
Speak for yourself, will ya! I consider myself lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast this morning!!!
Yeah I kinda know what you mean. Just went through regiment 5 of my 6 treatment chemo and I kinda have a bit of 'Chemo-Brain' this week. Thanks goodness it only lasts for several days and I get back to normal.
