Well, I didn't give myself enough time to be very creative, but here's my two tries. I did them in Rhino cause sketchup was giving me a fit for some reason, probably need to reinstall.

As far as the comment about a 4 year old sticking there fingers in it. Well, I'd certainly treat the machine as a dangerous thing that they shouldn't be around, but beside that I would mount it as an exhaust fan so that a finger would hit the flat of the blade instead of the edge anyways. Gefahren, the design on the left looks nice but, man, those 'arms' will break of in next to nothing.

I didn't have a lot of time to devote to this, but nevertheless, here are my designs. The 'Phlat Out Cool' lettering would need modification, as I didn't take the time to adjust it for the 1/8" bit  ...

Gefahren - A nine-pointed star? Do you / did you live near Hofheim?
And I'll bet those "arms" are pretty stiff Yoram, due to the aspect ratio.

seeing it like this i could also see the red being a cut path with some mods so that a red LED could be placed behind the panel so that is would glow.....

No, Never lived near there. I assume there's a Cathederal or somthing there that has a big window like that? didn't even think about that untill now.
The arms on that other one should be ok I'd think, they are 5mm wide and really not that long. I think it would look better if I did a recessed edge on them, but I ran out of time last night and don't have time before the deadline today.

edit: Ahh, I just looked that up and then looked at your icon, now I understand what your talking about. No, I just picked nine as a nice number to array the circles around.

Thank you everyone for your Design the Phlatprinter MK3 Cooling Fan Guard Contest entries! There can only be one winner, or can there? We have decided to use 3DMON's middle design as the stock Phlatprinter Cooling Fan Guard and we have decided to make this aspect of the Phlatprinter customizable so you can choose to replace it with the cooling fan guard of your choice for a cool custom look.
