I finally broke down and took the plunge! The MKIII with USB board and $50 discount was just too tasty to delay. I'm officially a CNCrackHead now Who else was unable to resist Mark and Trish's CNCWiles? Peter+
Welcome to the forum Peter. I ordered mine as soon as I got the email stating they were ready. I am so looking forward to the MKIII.
Welcome Peter. Yep, ordered mine a few minutes after the email came in.. I saw the email come in on my smart phone while I was at a light about a mile from home... Came in the house, ordered it, unloaded the car and un-hooked the trailer from a day of flying and then headed out to see Roger Waters... All with in about 20 minutes. Hope I'm one of the first
I *almost* ordered it from my phone yesterday afternoon when the e-mail came in, but I had to move some money into my "play" account early to cover it, fortunately the wife has been in a good mood and it's for a good cause (I plan to use it with a high-school RC club with a teacher friend of mine). Was going to order the MKII last spring but when I went to do it the MKII had been taken off the store about a week earlier -- I'm glad because I think the MKIII will be a much better arrangement all-around, easier to transport in my car, etc. Peter+
Oh boy. There goes your week nights and week ends when you get the phlatty up and running. You'll start having dreams of Fan fold foam and where your next fix of the stuff will come Knowing Sketchup will just compound the problem of having enough time in the day to mess with it all. You will be spoiled that is for sure.
I saw an ad for a t-shirt that says, "Come to the Darkside. We have cookies!" So, "Welcome to the PhlatSide! We have FFF and Depron!" mu-ahahahahahahahaha!
I am third on the list for a new MK3. My MK1.5 has served me well over the past 2 years. That is quite a testament to Mark and Trish! I will hate to part with it, but after I get the MK3 built, it will go on the for sale block where I am sure it will give someone at least another 2 year run. A recent modification I made to the Y axis belt drive mod included a new stepper motor housing made from 1/4" MDF. With this mod, the MK1.5 should go on living for a long time to come. Being able to have a top down gantry where I can see what is being cut and being able to swap out tools was a big factor in my decision to upgrade and of course a larger cutting area was a big plus.
I don't know how far down the list I am, but I ordered mine sunday night (I was out flying when the e-mail arrived, Duh-oh!). I can't wait to get ahold of the MKIII so I can stop cussing at razor blades and cut up counter tops (I miss sometimes...)
Man I live on the other other side of the world so when I saw the mail when I got home it was like raid the accounts Christmas has come early. ;-) I am 13th in line... MK1 has served me well as well however time for faster cutting over head gantry faster milling etc.... I am sure the wait will be worth it. ;-)
yep, I got one! number 11 on the list. I finally decided to start putting some of my designs into production. Its been 20 years since I worked as a machinist (conventional and CNC) so I am pretty jazzed to get back into setting up and running the Phlatprinter.
Apparently I'm "Lucky #7"! Lately I've been thinking that cutting out planes with tiled plans isn't all that bad, but now I'm working on a 28" Skyray that scaled poorly, and it's a pain in the butt! MKIII parts manufacturers better be working their butts off! - Jeff
Where do one sees the list? Not that it matters, really, I'm most likely number 152 or something like that.
I think the biggest problem with hand cut plans is you are limited on making details like part interlocking, small filets etc.. and the overall fit and finish of the parts is poor. Part of the RC experience is flying something that looks good.
Well, in my excitement I didn't even notice in the e-mail where they said I was the tenth person. Well, now I know.
This is really cool -- I had been saving for the MKIII (I hate using Credit Cards) and got the wife's approval to move some money from the household account to my play account so I could buy the MKIII with the waitlist deal a few weeks before my play account had the necessary funds. Monday I moved the funds and ordered the MKIII Yesterday the company filed a patent application with me as primary inventor Today the bonus for a patent application came through -- so I've more than replaced the household funds and the MKIII is mine free + clear God is Good. Hey guyz! We have been saving a lot of the pics and videos for the final build. All the prototype builds have correction writings all over them and would not make a nice pic Very soon we will have a lot to share here Mark and Trish
I am new to the Phlatprinter and have posted only once on this forum. I bought my MK3 Sunday night, and found out later that I am 12th on the list. I could have been 3rd or 4th, as I saw the email right after it came out. I just couldn't decide wether to purchase the USB board or not. Bought the board after all. Does anyone know how long it is likely to be before Phlatprinters start shipping to those who bought first? Michael
I was number 7, also because I couldn't decide whether or not to buy the USB board or not. Decided not to - saved 150 bucks and I think (?) I'm not limited with the parallel cable. Otherwise I could have been number one. I was refreshing my email like every ten seconds. The store says they should be in the mail within 30 days. I would think Mark and Trish would be conservative on the ETA, so I'm thinking it could even be less. They'll probably give us an update when they get all the parts - we'll see! - Jeff
