    [EDIT] 03-11-2011
Updated files with proper wing chord size. I had the wing size wrong but I corrected all files and re-posted.

Here is a 30" WS, 1/4" foam Jeep-O-Plane. I threw one together just to check for errors in the plans and cut files. Everything fits together nicely after I corrected a couple mistakes. Now that the files are done I can work on finding the CG and determine my servo placement.

Construction is a no brainer. I attached the top to one of the fuse sides, working my way front to back. Then I glued on the other fuse side the same way. Then I glued on the bottom, working from the middle tab outwards, (it just happended that way?). Next I slid the Hstab and elevator in place. I still need to form my airfoil in my wings but that will have to wait...

It will help to roll or bend the top and bottom to form a slight arch before try to glue them to the fuse sides.

The foam that you remove from the largest fuse windows can be used as bulkheads/support in the cabin of the fuse. I put one up front where the window divider is and one just behind the large window.

Oh yea, ailerons are optional. I'll be posting the graphics scaled for this plane and ready to print in the near future.

    Enjoy and I'll post more info when I get it flying. Attached files [IMG] JOP Full.pdf (269.9 KB)Â JOP Tiled.pdf (274.9 KB)Â [IMG] Jeep-O-Plane_1.cnc (37.9 KB)Â Jeep-O-Plane_2.cnc (16.6 KB)Â Jeep-O-Plane_PB.skp (1.8 MB)Â [IMG] [IMG]

I cut one of these out of blue FFF and it came out nice. Test fitting, the wing span seems a little short, but what do I know. Do you recommend a pusher motor for this thing? Oh, I took the liberty to cut some fold lines (five of them) in each wing to make them bend a little easier. I'll just betcha this thing will fly as soon as we sort out the CG. Nice job and a neat looking little aircraft. Thanks.

Yes, the wings are short but there is still quite a bit of wing area there, remember, there are (2) wings.

Mine has been built for some time now but I still haven't mounted my motor or other gear but here is what I have on hand that I will be trying... A pusher motor is fine to use but not necessary.

    2409-12T Outrunner http://www.headsuprc.com/servlet/the-14 ... ric/Detail
    TG9 servos
    Suppo 25a esc
    2S 1000mah lipo
The biggest GWS SF prop that will fit

A good starting point for the CG is 3.5" from the leading edge of the top wing.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Mr. 7UP...completed and flew the Jeep-O-Plane. First off, want to say this little plane is a winner! I was pretty hurried to get it together for a test run so I am afraid this particular build is not very pretty. I used blue FFF for most of the plane but used white Depron for the two wings. I also cut some fold lines on the bottom of the wings to help make the airfoil. I used a 20-20L Hacker clone as a pusher motor with a 9" slo-flyer prop. The plane tended to be a little tail heavy so I paralleled two 1300mah 3S lipos in the nose and it balanced fine about 3 1/3 back from the total distance between the upper wing LE and lower wing TE. That comes out to around 4" back from the LE. Plane climbs out well and cruises well and 1/2 throttle and will fly forever (I made five flights this morning) on the two battery setup. The wings tend to fold a little but in my mind that creates dihedral, so what the heck. I suppose a carbon rod could be slid in there to prevent breakage. Now that I know how great this little plane flies, I can build another a do a nicer job. I am thinking it needs (maybe four) doll baby carriage wheels, but I am not sure. I have attached a few photos, just so you can see what I have done so far. Oh...the window posts up front are all pretty weak and easy to snap so maybe a little carbon rod or bamboo skewer behind them woud help. Thanks for this great design. It is a real attention getter in the air! Servos are 9gm - 1 for both rudders and 1 for elevator (mounted on horiz stab). Going to add ailerons to lower wing...

Very cool Chuck, glad you had success with it and thanks for the tips.

The wheels sound like a great addition and if it is a floater I'm thinking AP/FPV plane.

    Thanks for the info.

7up - Earlier this evening I was looking this little aircraft over and wondered what it would take to convert it to a float plane. As it is constructed, it would not take too much. The AUW is a little high for that application. Maybe it would sink towards the nose. I already know it would great as it is to take off from snow. The prop is plenty high and the bottom of the fuse looks like a snowboard so it will be good. I also forgot to mention (and it is probably not necessary) that because the fuse is so wide, lateral balance proved to be critical to flying nicely. With two batteries parallel wired, I simply placed on on either side in the nose. When I had them both together the plane wanted to go left. This is a totally fun plane to fly and to see flying. Something about it just makes everyone smile. I am going to put it through its paces again tomorrow morning and then I am going to cut out a new one and try to do a neater job of building. Maybe I can get a short video with my camera. If so I will share it.

Thanks buddy, I'm actually in the process of building one, I have printed the tiled plan on A3 size paper which makes a fairly big Jeep-O-Plane on RCG thread...

I will update my build in here if it is ok.

Can I have some inside info such as motor placement... Is it straight mount or is there any up or down incidence?

Does it absolutely require ailerons or will it fly nicely enough on rudder/elevator config?
If it does require ailerons, does it need to have 4 ailerons or only upper wing ailerons are enough?

If I need to PM Chuck about these I'll do no worries but I think it is nice to be on the open thread so anyone can see.

    Cheers.

I think if covered with clear tape on the bottom fuselage it could easily belly take off too so I'm not going to do any LG on it.

Once I fly mine successfully I may do a water proof bottom fuselage for water take off as I have great Golf pound here in my area, as a matter of fact I might have one of the best flying area as my accomodation is surrounded with a huge Golf Course! ;)

So a stepped bottom fuse and additional floatters on the bottom wing might work fine.

This mods to be based on the Polaris style.

Anyway I was basically saying that I was to stich my plan tonight to show the difference in size between my print and the original size of the tiled plan. Basically twice bigger!

I will also mount my motor straight and see if it need some incidence to it but I guess it will work out fine.

My idea is to build that ring around the prop so it look like the original with additional flat CF spar for strength.

I will also open the back panel where the motor is mounted and stiffen it either with wooden steerer use in take away coffee shop or use bbq skewers, that way it will allow the airflow to hit the bottom part of the prop as well.

This is a very exciting build and I'm really looking forwad to have it airborn.

I will be using one servo for both rudders and one servo for the elevator. No intention to place any ailerons right now, They might be necessary but can't tell right now till I maiden the plane.

So as I was saying a geared motor with a 9x6 prop, 1000 to 1300 mAh battery and 2 regular nylon geared 9gr servos will be my choice of electronics.

Will post some update later on today.

It sounds like you have a lot of new cool ideas incorporated into your version and it will be able to take off from the water!
This is going to be sweet!

Well let us see how it goes with the normal config first and then I'll move on to some water mods.

I found sometimes this morning to stich my plan as Friday is our day off over here. The picture attached show you the difference in size between the Tile plan printed on A4 size paper versus A3 size paper.

On the A4 size I end up with a 29.5 inches wing span while on the A3 I'm having a 42.5 inches wing span. The fuse is huge on the A3 size, like more then double! This is going to be fun for sure!

Yep it is indeed, Thanks. Go on and Google Al Hamra Village, that is in Ras Al Khaimah/UAE.

It has been my flying field for the past 2 years.

Here is a link to an areal video I made if you are interested: http://youtu.be/5bVQLRO8GjE
