I have recently gotten involved with a co-op workshop maker/hacker space called "Pumping Station: One" http://pumpingstationone.org/near my home in Chicago. The place is really cool we have all kinds of shop equipment there and for a nominal membership fee each month I get 24/7 access to all the stuff there. Anyway, I took my PhlatPrinter there to show the everyone and they thought it was really cool.

Then I met this guy Nick at Pumping Station one who was making a replica Daft Punk Helmet http://www.flickr.com/photos/59022062@N08/sets/72157625940472256/ and he asked me if my PhlatPrinter could cut a part for it. It sounded like it would be pretty easy to do on the PhlatPrinter so he drew it up in SketchUp and today he came over and I showed him how to use PhlatScript and Mach3 to cut his parts. It went amazingly smooth and it was awesome to see him holding his parts in such a short period of time! I really think we are on the cusp of a personal manufacturing revolution and the PhlatPrinter really makes this possible with it's low cost and ease of use, thank so much to Mark and Trish and all the PhlatBoyz for helping me get my PhlatPrinter going and helping me improve it all these years. Here is a video of the steps Nick took to make his parts on my PhlatPrinter:

Thanks Trish and Mark, The helmet inserts turned out pretty nice with a 1/16" bit. I think I may have to do the bushing gantry mod though, my milled slots are a little wobbly for smaller work like this since I am still running on the orginal pipe bushings :)

The pumping station sounds really cool too! I remember being a part of a computer group in Fl like this but we would try to write cool programs to simulate artificial life, but it ended up turning into a warez sharing center and I soon lost the interest.
