I took these shots outside and the shuttle looks better in these shots. I just hope I get this done before the end of April. Attached files
Man this is top notch! the details just blow me away! Its a lot bigger then I first thought form looking at the first pictures you posted. This is going to be one to keep as a family heirloom I hope you WIN brother! Looks fantastic Travis great job Mark and Trish
Guys, I thank you all for the comments on the build of this model, it helps me to keep posting, I have done a lot of work in the past couple of weeks, I am about 99% done!!!!!! So here are some more updates. Here you see the chin guns, they are made from a jet engine nozel cut in half, semi wheels andI took a gun body from a star trek fighter kit made a mold of it and caste it in resin, glued them together and added evergreen tubing for the barrels the wing guns are made in similar way. I have painted the body and wings, but have not clear coated the wings or weathered them. The wings are not glued on yet they are on very tight so I should have no problem holding them on when I epoxy them to the gears. I have the rear engine lights working with the chip I bought, but I can not wire and test the wings until I glue them on. The paint job is not as good as I would like, there are things I should have done before I painted it , and there are seams that should have been filled, but I thought I could weather it in a way that would hide them. he color is a little too green than what I was going for. I still have to stain and finish the base. I think it turned out ok for the first time ever scratchbuilding a big model. The model stands from the bottom of the base to the top of the dorsal wing 35" From wing tip to wing tip it is 26" From the nose to the rear upper dorsal mount it is 17" Attached files
Travis, this thing looks better than the original movie prop! Your attention to detail blows my mind John
WOW turned out AWESOME Travis! I still can't get over the level of detail added to this model. How long before you go to the competition? Mark and Trish
The Shuttle is done. I stained and finished the base Friday at work, so it should be dry Monday. The light kit I bought was working fine, but a chip has fries on the board so I sent it back to be fixed. I plan to get a new camera before Wonderfest, so I can take better pics. at the show. I am now working on a different model to also enter at Wonderfest. it is a ship of my own design. It is similar to the Battlestar Galactia Colonial Movers ship. Attached files
Travis, wish you the best of luck at Wonderfest! Great Job on the build, I need to see this in person some day!! John
Thanks guys, here is a pic of the other ship I am going to enter. It is a Soviet Cargo Tanker from a differnt future timeline. kit bashed from various plastic model parts and HO scale train kits. I am still working on the base. Attached files
Wonderfest was this past weekend and I had a great time. There were talks this year about 3d printing, but they talked about the professional side with rapid prototyping, I was hoping they would talk about the hobby side. any way I won a Merit award for the Soviet Cargo Freighter and I won a Bronze for my New Republic Shuttle. There are many pic collections from various people Here are a few http://www.flickr.com/photos/ter-or/set ... 614304645/ http://s1007.photobucket.com/albums/af1 ... 20Entries/ http://s1093.photobucket.com/albums/i42 ... st%202011/
Congrats Travis!! I hope I can make this event some day! You are amazing and an inspiration, I wish I had the patience for the detail you apply to your work! Thanks for sharing the pics! John
Excellent and outstanding work Travis. You should have got a Gold but the competition is tough and looking through those Flickr photo's the standards of work submitted are extremely high. Tweakie.
Thanks Guys, I was shocked that I received any awards, I thought my work was not up to par with the rest of the work showcased there, but the judges must had been impressed. There were flaws that I should had addressed, if I had I might had received a silver or gold. Next year I plan to enter more stuff. I would suggest that if you can attend this event next year, do so. It has nothing to do with RC planes, but you can learn lots of modeling stuff that you can apply to RC building.
