This is another post about the same issue as this seems to be getting a ltlle worse than before and I've never solved it. I've been getting what feels and looks like vibration when the y axis moves. All my cncusb settings are good as far as stepper settings as well as the board settings When the machine is off and i just barely move the ganntry and it feels what seems like little "flats". Not smooth. If I move faster, kind of goes away. Looks like the gantry is sitting on the y rails fine and there is no looseness. With machine on and jogging the Y, I certainly see and feel vibration from the Gantry.
Since you haven't had any luck with the other possibilities I'm thinking you need to take a closer look at the stepper motor. I would want to eliminate the possibility of a bad stepper from the equation at this point. If you have eliminated the Y track / rollers, you're pretty much down to the stepper, belt tension/snags or a bad pulley. If you narrow it down to the stepper make sure you have the correct voltage feeding the stepper before you swap in a replacement. :02cents:
The controller card could have an issue as well. Try swapping the leads from the x and y motors and see if the problem follows the swap or stays on the y. Tim

Sounds just like my machine, as best as I can tell. I'm not seeing or hearing anything in your video out of what I consider normal operation for my machine. If you are not seeing missed steps in your cuts, I would have to say that what you have been describing is merely machine harmonics. Each axis does have a distinct harmonic sound, perhaps this is what you have been describing all along? :questions:
Your machine sounds normal to me. All the motors sound like they should. the material looks like it's moving through the machine ok. Make a video of the machine cutting something. Post it, and lets see if we can see anything not moving correct. Your PP sounds good, Cheers. GHB
dcampbell, I believe I am getting the same results as you are. My Phlatprinter has been working fine for several months, but recently have been getting a lot of stutter from my Y-Motor. I don't know if it is caused by the motor or the controller. It definatly affects my cut results as you can now see jagged edges in my foam parts for the same GCode files that were smooth before. If anyone has any ideas I'd be glad to hear them. SlowBipe
Thanks 3DMON. The first thing I did was to tighten up the Y Axis Belt. I get the jerking even with no load while just traversing the Y. SlowBipe
It sounds to me as if the carriage was chattering as it traversed the machine bed. Are there MDF to MDF bearing surfaces or guides. ( Waiting on delivery of PP #78 ) If there is I would try to wax the ways and guides with candle wax and run it again. I have found that candle wax sticks well to almost any surface and it is not wet and dust attractive. The lead screw should also get a lubing up. I have many little chunks of wax laying around my shop as I use it to lube saw blades, plane shoes, machine ways, drawers and so forth. Candle wax rocks
dcampbell, I wonder if you got your vibrations problem resolved. I was just calibrating my machine. I had it set up for 120ipm. When I had it run the 3" test distance I had loud noise and vibrations. I changed the speed to 300ipm and it run quite and smooth. No idea why, but it works. I will now test it while it's cutting.
