de Havilland DH.110 Sea Vixen

    I'm starting a new project. Here's a teaser picture. This is being created from a 3 view set of diagrams. I'm at the "cut it out of blue fanfold until it fits right" stage. When I'm happy with the fit, I'll move on to using depron and balsa. I'll post the progress. Estimated frame parts count > 80 with the wing ribs.

    I'm going to guess the Yakovlev Yak-28 Interceptor?
    Looks great so far Laverne I really like the way this build technique is looking :good:

    Hey Mark and thanks! I do see some resemblence to the Yak-28. But, this one has twin booms and is British. I'll have a test fit picture this weekend.

    I ran across the Sea Vixen a couple weeks ago while researching the Vultee XP 54. Needless to say, it won out over the Vultee. I really like the Red Bull version too! When I look at this plane, I see power, not speed, but power. I hope my build does actually resembly the real thing in some ways.

    It's too bad that there is only one of these left. I agree, it's a cool plane. Now, if I could only find that new bottle of glue.

    Next steps are to add hardware. Main landing gear with steerable nose gear. Steering servo, aileron servos, and elevator servo. I'm using an Exceed 2215/1300kv motor. It's rated at 300 watts. Should be a good starting point. The frame weighs about 8oz. AUW should be around 25oz. I'll be using a 2200mah 3 cell lipo. Have to make some servo extensions. I'm going to test fly this build to find out where the CG is. Hopefully not too much trouble with that. When things seem good, I plan on building one using depron and adding the covering to give the wings their airfoil shape. I initially thought I would use balsa ribs for stiffness, but the foam ribs seem stiff enough to allow me to cover the wings with out too much warping issues.

    This is an awesome build! I love the way you constructed the booms, they will be nice and strong this way. Really great work LaVerne! I think you have another masterpiece here :good:
