Hey guys I am new here and I am having some trouble with phlat script. Everything was going good until it came time to generate g code. The g code that it generated is in a document form and will not open in any programs, except for like text edit. I am using mac by the way. I try to open it in this g code visualizer but it is not recognizing that it is g code. When Phlat script generates the code it saves it as Screen shot 2011-04-03 at 9.10.04 PM. Also I dont know whether to check generate true or false. Or genereate 3d true or false. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

drivemakeshoot, could attach or post the code text that is generated here? That might help us see what is going on with it.

Ehmm...sorry I'm asking, but what is wrong with the code? I'm not sure why it didn't make the code with the .cnc extension but now that you did it yourself, the code is good. It opened in a program that shows the tool pass and showed a lot of lines. If that what you wanted than every thing is fine.

What steps did you take to generate the g-code. Maybe a screen-shot to show what you see when you're ready to generate the g-code. We need some input to see why it's not making the file with the correct extension.

Oh ok that is very good to here. I was actually trying to open it with this g-code visualizer for mac. So maybe that program doesn't recognize it? To make the g code I opened up a new sketchup file and drew 2 circle, one inside the other. Then I did an outside tool pass on the outer circle and an inside on the inner circle. I then layed down some tabs and hit generate g code. It then saved it to that file. Can you help me with the true/false for generate and generate 3d?

    I think he means here.....

I'm not sure... but you have to put it in manually..just the first time if I recall correctly?

I know nothing comes up if I hit the "save as type" pull down tab

    Cheers

I am on mac so a save as type does not even come up. I tried saving the file as test.cnc, but it is still a document type. Is that acceptable? I hit generate g code and then saved it to a folder and the default save is like the one I posted. I tried opening it again in a g code visualizer, pleasant 3D, but it said that it could not open data files.

I'm sure the file will be just fine as it is just a text file. It SHOULD load into Mach3 or the USB CNC program just fine.

There SHOULD be a way to tell the MAC to associate whatever extension you want with what ever program you want.... Not sure how to do that on the MAC....
I had an iphone for about a week not too long ago. The thing is so darned limiting compared to the Android, I went back. I thought about trying a MAC computer, but not after that experience.

The screenshot that you posted is not what the file that you've posted contains. In it is a square, not a circle.

When I make a new project the name I saved the project under, which I do all the time as I go along the designing, is the name that comes up as default when I generate the g-code. I can change it to whatever I want. I don't have to put an extension, .cnc comes up as default. I'm using Windows, though, not Mac.

Ya I am an android guy, mac works just fine for me. I just changed the extension to .gcode and it opened up in pleasant3D, but the g code did not look anything like like my sketchup document. Could anyone try to load it into mach3 or something to see what it looks like?
Also what is the generate and generate 3d?
