Hello, my name is johan and i'm from the netherlands.

I like to draw quad frames up lately and put them online for other people to cut for themselves.

Now i have drawn up a new mini frame, but the problem, for me at least, is that the arms need to be cut depths into, so that they fit into eachother.

I don't have a CNC router myself, but it would be handy if this can be exported to one file.
I don't know if depts can be inputed into a DXF or need to be exported directly to gcode?

please understand that my skill level is beginner. i know the basics, probably 100hours of messing with sketchup. So therefor i don't really want to go and learn autodesk al over again.

btw, i'm on sketchup pro 8, because i already read a few things here about differnt versions.

Johan, there is a way to make the recess that you are looking for. It's call 'pocketing'. You draw the part that you want recessed. Search for 'pocket' on this forum. After you made the pocket, you use the 'center line' tool in SketchUcam to mark the pocket lines. In the 'center line' tool you can set the depth of the cut in % of the thickness of the material.

You can look here to see how a pocket will look like. It's the green lines that we are cutting.

BTW, where do you post your quad designs?

he thanks guys, that realy helped.

I know alot more now, i have been searching the last 2 days.

I think, becasue i don't have a CNC router its best to upload both the 2D and 3D file, so the CNCer can set the pockets himself?

btw, i got one question that i really liked answerd, because no one seems to have the know.
What's the differnce between sketchup and lets say Invetor? Is it worth going to inventor and basicly learning everything al over again, because i'am getting better and much faster with sketchup?

Here are the quad frames. :D

I'm not familiar with Invetor but I know that SU is free!!! Also, in SU I can do the g-code, thanks to the people who wrote the add-on program, I don't know if it can be done in Invetor. And, just like you, I'm quite good at SU, going to a new program is not the smartest thing to do, for me, unless the new program can deliver much more option, and still be free, of course. :D
