In a day or so I am going to be posting pictures of a Black Foot CNC machine which I am building with
OPEN RAIL. I'll start by posting pictures of the router table I designed for it. I think most of you will
find it to be an interesting and easy table to build. The plans and CNC files for the router templates
for this table will be made available as well. The plans will be made available at the end of the build.

Here is a sneak peak at the project.



There have already been some changes to this design, and other things that will be added.
I will explain them as we go. More pictures and info coming soon.
Please feel free to ask questions, or make suggestions.

The table looks great, can not wait to follow your progress. I too want to build one like this but not quite as big. Are you going to incorporate a vacuum system to hold down the material or is it going to clamp ?

I'll use a vacuum system for dust collection only.
The material will be dogged down with clamps.
I also have a way to keep cutters from cutting in to the tables surface.
That will also be discussed as the build progresses.

I have not had much time to get all the drawings done for the table assembly.
I am working on it.

Here are some pictures of the basic frame parts. Some of the pictures have spots on them.

Yes I have. I don't own that album. But I do own almost all of their albums.
I repurchased them on CD about ten years ago. I am a big fan of Pink Floyd.

Hi everyone.

Here is a 3D model of the heavy duty lifting levelers I am using.

I did not show threads on the 5/16-18 stud to save file space.

Here are some pictures of the 4' x 8' table frame being assembled.




The next set of pictures are of the three risers being set in place.





I'll be posting an assembly drawing shortly showing how all the
hardware is used to make the table frame strong, level and square.
There will also be more pictures of the table with the upper support
frame and hold down brackets in place.

Here are rendered images of how the top (shown), and bottom
rails are secured into position with the 1/4-20 bolt and 1/4-20 cross dowel.
There is a washer and lock washer under the head of the bolt. When the bolt is
tightened up, it puts a tremendous amount of clamping force on the riser against the frame.
The two interlocking slots plus the clamping power of the bolt and cross dowel keep the
upper and lower frames locked tight and square. This joint is very hard to break or distort.

Looks amazing do yourself a favor and get a nice flycutter to finish leveling the table once you are finished, trust me it is worth the money to make sure it is really, really flat.

 

I made a nice fly cutter about 30 years ago. Best tool I ever made.
I just keep the cutting inserts sharp, and it cuts smooth as silk.

I wonder if the make a fly cutter with a 1/4" shank or smaller! I'll have to google it.

 

The fly cutter I have has a 1/2" shank. I need to buy an 1/2" ER20 collet so I can use it with my spindle.

Hi everyone,

Here are some pictures of the 4 x 8 table with the top on and bolted into place.
This is the surface that the cutting deck I'm working on will be mounted to.
The chain drive mounting blocks are just sitting in position. They will be mounted later.

The next thing I'm going to concentrate on will be mounting 5/8 x 5/8 aluminum mounting
rail that will hold the Open Rail in place.
