Love the way the ribs are showing through on the rudder panels. Its going to look realistic when that part is painted! Keep up the good work Mark and Trish
Finally got all the bits and pieces for the wing and got a good start on the center section, it's not fully glued yet. I put a 3/4 inch aluminum tube just behind the spars. I intend to add supports to the spars as you would with a balsa plane, should prove to be quite strong after the foam skin is installed. More to come... Mudman1959 Attached files
Slow going on this one... I have been busy with life and work lately... I did finally receive in the servos for it from HK. They were a bit bigger than I thought they would be but they are water proof and have lots of torque. Still lots to do... Also started building the outboard wing panels. This is going to be a big plane! Mudman1959
Cool looking build. What are you planning for power? The motor mounts look like they're for glow engines.
The original plans are for glow engines but they can be easily converted to electric and that is what it will have. I have not settled on the size and power yet as I will need to see what the final weight will be when it is closer to being completed. I hope to keep the plane around the 10 pound range... It's been on the back burner for a bit but I hope to get back into the build soon. Mudman1959
It's getting there... Finished the tail today and working on the outboard wing panels... Still lots to do!
It's been that long? As the "Mad Money" allows the build continues. Waiting for the motors to arrive then the fun really starts... Also waiting for the retracts for the retractable wingtips.
View attachment 512 View attachment 513 View attachment 511 I figured out a great way to secure my wing panels on securely without having to have a access panel. I was at work and saw a Draw Type Latch on a hot water container lid from a aircraft I was working on and it hit me... This would work great for the wing panels. After a short trip to Lowes I found some 2 inch latches. They latch tight and do not come undone and hold the wing panels on tightly. I plan on putting a O-ring around the connector to keep the water out of the connection and the latch pulls the wing panels just enough to make this possible... I also started sheeting the outboard wing panels... More to come! Mudman1959
That is cool, mudman. I didn't even know that they have retractable wing tips. Learned something new!
The electrics are finally starting to go in... I had the motors up and running today for the first time. I really need to balance the props as I cut them down a bit to fit. The small bay area just inboard of the L/H motor will be for the receiver battery. So far it all works
Had some spare time today since it's blowing and raining outside so I devoted some time to the PBY. The wing is now completely covered now, all of the electronics are in and working correctly. Now to work on the Nacelles and Cowls for the motors then lots of finish work to get it ready for the Styro Spray 1000 covering. I received the Master Airscrew 7x4 props I ordered and they work great. More to come... Stay tuned.
