A very shallow V might be good. You want plenty of flotation at the sides though to help keep it stable on the water to avoid capsizing
Here is the surf board with a couple more changes. Surfer chic added to replace the simple fin I had for the first sea trials. I also lowered the thrust line since I had ample clearance. Attached files
Hey Mark and fellow PhlatHeads! Thanks so much for posting and talking about the surfer dude! I cut one out on my PhlatPrinter for a friend of mine at our flying club, here is the maiden flight: We plan on flying it again soon and we'll re-post another video. Feedback on this flight is welcome. Thanks Pilot: Dan "MeisterTek" Meyer Builder: Dan Nalepa
Dan! Very cool Great job on the build guys. Any tips you want to share on ways it you could improve the design and I will try to incorporate it into the design.. Great video guys thanks for sharing looks like you had a great day Mark
Oops That thing was sure fast, I love it! I was just thinking the other day where did Meistertek go? We haven't heard from ya in a while. Looked like you guys had some good fun.
Thanks Mark and Shaun, It was going well until the rolls! I have been lurking for a while just not posting much. A few of our club members saw the surfer dude at a fun fly so I cut a few out for them to build. Should have a gang of surfers up soon! See you guys later! MesiterTek
I'm Getting close on this one. I was thinking EDF but went with a Prop Instead. Cheers E-T Attached files
Whoa! Glen you told me you were working on this but I had no idea you were this close!! Nice looking! I have to see this one! Mark
Looks good Glen. It shouldn't have any problems turning with the motor back there. I wonder if you will have any issues with cg.
Thanks C of g is going to be a issues for sure. bigger battery and put servos as far FWD as I can will help. Hopefully won't have to add lead to it. Thats why I made it a pusher to get some air over the controll surfaces. Cheers E-T
Hey guys here's some cool news for this week ends JR event Mike Fuller (CF) on rcgroups is going to bring a modified version of the Flying Surfer Dude to the JR indoor festival to try and win the most original design contest! It will be really cool if he wins. He called this morning to make sure it was ok of him to do it. I told him yes!! So this week end we should know what happened!!!. Its going to be cool for sure So you guys that are going if you can get some pics that would be awesome! Mark
I see they took my Idea somewhat. I wish I could see some video or get a report of how the surfer did with the prop through the body and Mabey how it was ballanced Cheers E-T
LOL I see that ET Mike PM'ed me and said that it was a huge hit with the big dogs there Who know where this will lead  Mark
 The Flying Surfer Dude wins the people choice award and the most original design award at JR Indoor Fly  Flying Surfer Dude Wins JR Indoor Flight Festival!! Guys we are so excited we had to share the news!! The Flying Surfer Dude won the People Choice AND The Most Original Design at the JR Indoor Flight Festival!! This is too cool guys and who knows where this will lead us in the future. When I created this design I never dreamed it would go this far! I really was trying to help design a plane for my brother, he would love this design and I knew it. Mike (C/F) here on RC Groups is the guy who took his modified version of the Flying Surfer Dude to the JR event and took home the gold! His version has some of the coolest graphics you have ever seen on an aircraft. Trish and I wish we could have been there to be a part of the this cool event but we are just so busy at the moment. (Maybe next year!) We would like to thank Mike for keeping us up to date with phone calls and PMs, he has really been great through this whole deal. Trish and I have been so excited from the very first phone call. Mike told us that his friends at Dream it R/C want to talk to us about a kit!! Whoo Hoo!! So stay tuned and we will keep you up to date Thanks guys Mark and Trish
That's great. I'm not a fan of them Speedos on his surfer but I guess the judges are . His surfer did come out nice though.
Wow! How cool is that! The graphics work was really super, but the fact that the SurferDude flys so well is really a testament to your efforts M&T... Coupled with Mikes artistic talents and fly skills, it is no wonder it took the awards it did. Congratulations to all of you!
Thanks Guys!!! Its hard to believe really! We are hoping that Mike will pop on and show some pics of the trophy! Mark and Trish
Wow, nice one Mark, Trish and c/f! I hoped you guys would get an award, but TWO that's just being greedy
Its really cool Si! Trish and I just got off the phone with Scott from Dream it RC looks like we will be working on a kit soon! We will keep you guys posted! Mark
