Man I can hardly wait till my new Phlatprinter /// gets here, I am psyched. :dance3:

Got a computer tuned up and ready for software and whatnot.

Which version of Sketchup is best for this machine? Seems the Pro version is $500. ( :twitch: <my wife already), is there any stupendous benefits of the Pro version to justify the cost?, or is the freeware fine business?

Thanks for any input you might have for a Phlatnewb :fugly:

Take your time with the build....it is faster than you think, and you'll be rewarded with a fine running machine.

I personally like SU version 7. I've been using the free version and so far have found no limitations with it.

From what I understand, version 8 no longer has DXF import (if that's important to you), but I hear there are plugins for that. Some have also reported issues with 8. That's why I stayed at 7

I too use the free SU version 7. It's all you'll really need, for now. Once you get proficient at it and feels you'll need more, then you can buy the pro version.

    Just my :02cents:

I am waiting for #70 to arrive in the mail. Looks like the lockout at Canada Post is going to delay it's delivery a bit.

That's a shame about the CA post. At least it's summer and you can go flying, and not winter where you would REALLY be jonsing for the PP :)

    Thanks everyone for the info!

Really bites Helno!!! Hope it comes soon.

Every link seems to lead to the version 8 of Sketchup can I still get version 7?

On the main Board Index page check the Sketchup Stuff topic, there is a sticky with downloads for Sketchup version 7.1 attached there.

So I got Sketchup all jiggy and am working on learning the software.

I was wondering if the build video is online somewhere I could watch it? I am sure most of the things I am wondering about will be in there :D

Check out the web site "TheCrashCast" for Mike Hancock's build log. I think this contains the build log for the prototype PhlatPrinter. Hope my memory hasn't failed me.

Whoop whoop, #78 will be delivered tomorrow!! (The good lord willing and the creek don't rise.) :D

This will be its new digs.

As all my machine shop equipment is manual, I also signed up for a cnc class at my community college that starts in just a few days, to help my learning curve a bit.

If you haven't checked out your local community college, you are missing out on a great thing. For instance where I live it costs about $300 to take a course. For that money, I also get access to an awesome machine shop/auto shop/welding shop/ heating and air shop/electronics shop....the list is huge and a bunch of experienced people to bounce problems off of.

Man I am psyched up for some foamie action!! Attached files [IMG]

NICE! wow man you got a nice set up ready to go. I love the L shape so you can have your computer off to one side like that.
Thank you for the CNC community college tip!
Good luck and we hope you have lots of fun!
P.S. Remember we are here for you should you run into any problems or questions along the way.

GasPipe, maybe the people, at the community college, will be able to help you solve the circle problem, if you'll end up having one that is. If so, post it here and you'll be the hero of all of us.

BTW, can you spell D U S T ? That place you have looks better than my living room! :D
