    Hi
I got as far as the import graphic on the Sketchup screen and got a down would look at what I'm doing. But as soon as I try to apply the outside cut tool to the graphic it vanishes as soon as I click it. Then I go to 'Edit and have to undo it all and try again.

The graphic is faded out completely and I've held down the 'Shift key' at the same time but it still wont work. I'm doing something wrong but I can't work out what.

Any help here would be most welcomed.

    I'm on Windows 7
    Sketchup Make 15.0
    Phlatboyz Phlatscript

    Michael.

    Hi Michael
first make sure your part fits inside the safe area you have set up
then be sure your part is not a componet or a group before applying the outside cut tool

EDIT: oh i see you import a graphic
you first need to draw the part "trace" using skp to create a usable part before any tool can be used

    Hello Bruce
    Thanks for replying.
I was following Marks direction in the second video towards the end where he took a section of the Openbuild logo and set it in the safe zone, but mine doesn't work the same as his.

Getting back to your Edit: could you clarify it a bit more for an old man, because you lost me at " need to draw the part "trace" using skp (whats SKP) to create a usable part before any tool can be used.

Are you saying its got to be a vector graphic before you can do anything with it.

    Michael.

    Hello Michael
skp is short for Sketchup . It is also short for .skp a Sketchup file
In the above edit it is short for sketchup

Now if you imported a graphic . It will need to be traced
If you imported the DXF it will need to be phlattened
Once phlattened it should create a face... once you have a face .... then the tools can be used

    Hope this helps

Dumb and Dumber 2 opened here yesterday, but I don't need to see it because I'm living it. Well of course SKP stands for Sketchup.

I think I'm up to speed now.

    Thanks again.

Well I'm still not getting there.

I took my logo and traced it in Xara Designer pro because that was the only software I have at present that with do a 'Bitmap Trace' . Anyway I traced it and saved the vector to my desktop. Then opened Sketchup and imported the logo into it. I then placed it on the cutting area and used the phlattened tool to flatten the graphic.

I then tried to use the 'Inside Cut Tool', but when I hovered over the logo nothing happened accept the green line to the left of the safe zone changed color to red. The same happened when I tried to apply the 'Outside Cut'.

I just can't seem to get this right.

    Michael.

If it turned red outside the safe zone ...
that tells me it needs to be exploded

When Bruce said 'post the file' he meant the SketchUp file. With it we can see if there is a problem. With the picture we can't.

    Mmm
I blame old age for this form of stupidity.

I now know the file you were talking about, but when I go to upload it, it doesn't show up in the upload window, even though that format (skp) is in the acceptable formats you can use.

I could put it in a zip file and you could open it when you receive it.

    Please let me know

old git, I looked at it and what Bruce said to you in his first response is exactly what you have to do. I did one sample for you, just so you'll see what he was talking about. I left most of the line so you'll get an, somewhat, idea how to go about it.

A few things. I changed, in Windows/Model info/Units, to decimal from what you had. It makes it easier, for me (LOL) and let me snap much closer to where I want. The curves I made with the bezierspline.rbz. Google it and install it, if you don't have it. Use the 'xray' mode to see the lines you draw easier. If you don't have it on your work sheet go to View/Toolbars and select Styles. The first icon in that toolbar is the xray.

    I didn't think i was wrong

Sorry to continue/rob this post...same problem, tried all I knew, with no success. Simple face...created with an outer square, inner square...added some different radii 'boning' corner. Sketchucam works on the outer, but not on the inner. Any ideas? File attached

    I looked at the file
erase one of the inside lines and redraw it
that will create a face on the inside
once you have a face you can use the tool

thanks...that worked. I was just playing with different radii located at the corner to see what would happen.
