Hey any help here do any of you guys remember where to get those cheap dell systems that were posted on rcgroups a while back?
We have someone looking in to a Phlatprinter but there system only has usb. So I checked out the smooth-stepper web site and they we out of stock on them(4 weeks wait). The price was $155. I think I remember a dell system running xp that someone had found for around $180?
I think this would be a good mover for this guy. What do you guys think?

I've got a Dell Latitude D800 I bought on eBay for around $200.

If you want a new Dell, contact Dell.com and bring your last 5 paychecks, un-cashed.

The magic to getting a good price is to use AuctionSniper or something similar to do your bidding at midnight.

The SmoothStepper may ALWAYS have a 4-week wait, because they sell every one they can get before it arrives. If your friend wants one, tell him to get on the waiting list ASAP - and you can forget about finding one of them used.

Geeks.com and Tigerdirect.com has some inexpensive systems.

Mark, I just bought a Dell GX260 2.4GHz for $90 w/free shipping. (edit: from eBay) I'm sure it would run SKUP and Mach with no problems. Lots to choose from, just search for "Dell GX260" or "Dell GX270".

There is an interface cable at http://www.pcconnection.com:
USB to DB25 IEEE-1284 Parallel Printer Adapter Cable, 6ft
    More From: Cables To Go
    Item #: 7922227
    Mfr. Part#: 16899
    Availability: In Stock
    Est. Ship: Ships Today
Use a USB port on your PC or hub to connect a parallel printer!

Notice that it uses a DB25 IEEE-1284 connector.

If the Phlatprinter is operating like a printer, wouldn't this be a quick fix?

Most of the USB to DB25 adapters and cables have enough data to run a printer, only.
This controller needs more data lines than they have, and I had to go to the SmoothStepper to get my Dell D800 to run Mach3.
