An alternative launch technique which I used on my Divinity is to hold the wing leading edge near the wing tip leaving the other wing tip resting on the ground.

Throttle up and perform a half Discus style twist and release the model when you feel it's in level flight into wind. It sounds scarry at first but you can feel if the model is climbing, diving or level as you rotate. It also keeps your hand well away from the prop!

My Skegg doodad is making it difficult to achieve the specified CoG

I will have to shorten it towards the nose i think as i really do not want to add weight to the nose if possible.

I had C of G issues with mine. Originally I planned on using 1300 lipo, but had to use 2200 to help the CG. I also had to cut the motor mount free and some of the foam at the back of the wing so that the front edge of the prop nearly touches the foam. The pictures were taken before these modifications and I didn't try to fly it until the CG was sorted.

Even with these changes I even up with 3oz of lead in the nose. Despite all the extra weight it still flies great.

I also turned the wing tip fins up at an angle so they would suffer less damage on landing. Attached files

Hi Guys

I am having reall trouble getting my CoG right with my Divinity II

To get it anywhere near close to the 7.5 inches from the nose i have to add 100grams!!!

This cant be right surely?

I could try reducing the size of the motor mount and maybe moving it forward 20mm?

What do you guys think?

I am using a 3s 2200 acros the nose as far forward as the opening will allow

The only casues of this problem i can see is the fact i moved the servos from there original locations back to more direct linkages. this takes the weight of the servos behind the CoG.

So this isnt helping.

I have a 4mm carbon spar running across the airframe just behind the radio gear opening which is also behind the CoG

I have 3mm carbon tube just inside the Leading edges of each wing half.

Any help and advice would be welcomed.

So I maidened my Divinity II last weekend. Mudman1959 built it for me and I have to say the way he built it makes it robust.

I got the radio set up and got out to the field. Put my battery in and velcroed. Plugged in the battery to the ESC. Double checked the flight controls. Had my friend Brian give it a toss and the launch was a non-event. It just flew away from his hand.

Excerpt of conversation:
Brian: It looks a little twitchy.
Me: Nope. The ailerons are reversed.
Brian: Oh. (Brian is a quiet man of few words)

I managed to land it with no damage at all. I realized that when I did my preflight check of the ailerons, I was looking at the nose of the plane and in my hurry, didn't reverse it in my head. Anyway no harm done. I reverse the ailerons and they are working as they should so we launch again and the elevator is backwards now. This time it didn't fair too well. The urge to pull back on the stick got me at about 6' above the ground and she nosed in. No major damage though. The battery broke through the floor of the tray and it smashed up the foam forward of the battery compartment. I have it all glued back together now and it is set up properly in the radio. I am just waiting for a day without rain and/or 20mph winds.

BTW, even with a 3S 2650mah battery, I had to add significant weight to the nose. I figure once I'm comfortable with flying it, the camera will be swapped out for the weights.

 

Finally got around to building this, have been meaning to for a long long time. In any case didn't have any real problems balancing it though I did need to use some weight up front. Also had a 3s 2200 up as far forward as possible. size of the cut worked great for my batteries as it held them nice and snug. used the weight to lock it in back so no velcro on the battery was required but put some for insurances. Also used the half discuss launch method that Gere explained above. That worked great. Below are a couple of highlight videos from the maiden (reason its not painted!!). I would also highly reccommend a spare. You can do it and work without one but it was fluttering at times.

Recent reports of UFO sightings in the Battle Creek area have been reported and people are on edge!!!! Could it be an invasion? Nah.... It just "Freedom" out showing off her colors...

 

With the Red and blue wing tips flashing and the bottom lights following the airfoil shape it stands out real good in the dark. Not finished with the lights... going to add some more soon.

 

Looks like an amazing design, I would like to try this cut on my CNC router.
