:UPDATE: Poll added. Please select all that apply to you. Remember you are voting to help me to see if I can make all this happen with-in the popular budget, if I cant I will just can the idea.
    Thanks.

Dont know if this is a MOD but heres an enclosure for the driver board I am working on to mount to the PhlatPrinter. I forgot to email myself the dxf file from the office but I was able to scan a copy I had printed that I left in my pocket. Forgive me for the quality.

I am going to cut this out of mild steel or aluminum on the laser tomorrow so I should have some finished pics up sometime this week. Hopefully I'll have time to bend it up too but I may not as I have to program the cnc break. Well see though.

WOW Eric! This is a great mod! i love the look of it and kudos for putting the Phlatprinter wording on there.
You know you will have to make a ton of these! I want one and I am sure most of the other guys will as well.
Really great work can't wait to see it complete
    How much? :)

    Glad you like.
    Never thought of selling them.
You tell me and I'll see what my cost is in the mean time.

Here the enclosure completed and bent.

This is simply more of a prototype than a finished product as all I had was 16Gage steel to cut it from and I need 24Gage.

To much small detial in too thick of material. When cut from 24Gage it will look much nicer.

Wow, that's really cool DBT!

Not only will it keep the board cool, it'll protect it nicely too. Very nice design.

    Thanks Fire :)

I just got it all put together and setup.
I have to say though it seems little to ask for but I am most happy with the parallel port connection. It’s really nice to not worry about breaking anything or pushing too hard to get it in. As you know sometimes it’s a bit hard to get these things in, they tend to be a tight fit (mine is) and it makes me worry about the pressure on the board when I press hard. This eliminates the issue. I like it.

As you can see I don’t have the motors attached for the purpose of picture taking.

    Eric

P.S. This is not its permanent location. When it is mounted to the Phlatprinter the words "Phlatprinter" will be shown loud and clear! ;) Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

This case here I simply had the laser cut some holes in the bottom in the 4 corners for screw to go threw.

    Couple of options (feedback welcome)
1: The way it is now 4 holes, in the bottom 1 hole in each corner. (Look at the first CAD images)
2: Bell slotted holes. Much like power stripps etc have. You mount your screws line the box holes up with the screw and slide the box to lock it down.
3: Put screw flanges on the outside of the case. Like a project box and/or some other enclosure have.
Down side to this is bending cost would go up as a special die would be needed to mill to make a slot so that the flange did not get bent up when the sides were bent up.

Also if I were to make a case to sell it would be more universial. There would be 3 holes cut for "jacks" or an "interface connection for the XYZ axis and also (have to do somethinking on this one but) some kind of plugs that the limit switches could be wired to on the case also . The XYZ interfaces would be much like a serial cable connection though.
And the case would allow more of most anytime of controller to fit that is common.

I would prob sell the enclosure to ways. BareBones and Kit includes all the hardware to wire your type board to the plugs/outlets/interfaces fan etc.

    That looks SOOO cool DBT!

Like Mark says, how much for one that will fit the Mechatroncs board that most of us are using?

My Parallel plug is also a tight fit in the socket. It's not so much of an issue now that the board is mounted to the side of the pp, but I had to be careful before I mounted it.

I really need to have a projection of want and target price you guys would like to see this at (with-in reason, I'd like them to be .50 cents too you know lol)

Depending on what they are worth depends on whether I can go Aluminum or Steel along with what types of hardware components I need to use to stay in the budget.

This would give me a better idea of what I am trying to shoot for when purchasing everything.

A poll would be nice in this topic I think.

    What are you guys thoughts?

You know I was thinking a little gif or short youtube vid of the fans spinning with their lights on would be a cool addition

Boy I like it, but I doubt it fits my budget. I'm pretty sure I can't get a sheetmetal shop to do something like this for less than $75. If you're talking around $50 I might be interested, $20 (bare bonez) and I'll send you some money, but I think that is wishful thinking. Where is the ball park? ;)

I would hate to say right now, dont want to scare anyone off lol.

Strickly ball park no promises, completely 100% at best a guess......
    Barebones: $25-$35
    Kit: $30-$60

Could be much lower could be much higher. If it's too high I will just can it.
I know it wouldnt be $75.

The biggest prob is the quantity. The more I can make the cheaper it is, the one/two off runs kill.

If I could get at least 10 ppl lined up a could see it being affordable.
    Eric

P.S. I dont think I can make a poll now that the forum is started, Mark... there may be something you can do in the admin panel?

Hi wanted to let you guys know I have made some head way on the enclosure pricing.

If you are interested in one of these Enclosures please PM me.

It looks as though I can do these for $35 bare bones in aluminum.
So if $35 sounds reasonable to you shoot me a PM.

You will not be bound to purchase if you send me a PM letting me know you would like one.
    Serious interest only please.
I need at least 10 People lined up to make the first run.

    Thanks guys (Phlatheads)
    Eric
