I haven't made the switch to SU 8 yet. One of the issues I had was not being able to import a dxf. I found this plugin today that allows import into SU 8. I haven't installed SU 8 on any of my computers yet, but if any of you have, here you go.

The developer seems to be really working on improving it when people find bugs.

I also uploaded v1.14 here as well.

For those who want to export to DXF or STL. This plugin works in version 6, 7 and 8

    Attached files skp_to_dxf.rb (9.1 KB)Â

    marcomartim,
This one I have been using and it works very well. Thank you for sharing this. However I am having problems with the Import dxf above. I keep getting an empty file error on most of my files. There are a few it does work on though. Any ideas why this might be happening?
    Thanks guys
    Mark and Trish

The plugin mentioned, is still under development and may contain bugs. I do not know specifically what problem in your files, they can be corrupted or incompatible format or another version.
There are many programs that emulate the creation of AutoCad DXF with some differences.
Jim (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtop ... 15#p278612) suggests that you check the files that are having problems with this free program:

Hey nice link I am going to check out that viewer as well. I have been on the hunt, looking for a viewer that will associate dxf files to be viewable in windows explorer as thumbnails,it maybe that this one can do it.
    Thanks again for the info

    Mark,

If you are willing to email the dxf file in question to the developer over at Sketchucation, I'm sure he will have a look at it. He really seems to want it to work well. I'm really hoping that this will be a good solution since I'd really like to to update to SU8.

Tim that's a good idea, thank you
I think it would be a great addition as well

EDIT * Tried this out in SU8 and it worked fine for most files. The other files it did not work on had bad polylines. I will keep at it and if I find one it will not open I will send it to the author

I tried using this plug in and, after I selected my dxf files, it wouldn't open the file. Instead, the screen just reverted back to the original search string of *.Dxf Is that the kind of fail you guys got from bad polylines?

Shame that Google decided to cripple Sketchup 8 free version by stripping DXF import. Let's hope they come to their senses and put it back in.
