hello, as you have seen, i have sent mark and trish some vinyl stickers. i am sure, some dont know how graphics are made. i figured i would post my vinyl cutter working...its kinda like a upside down phlatprinter..it has servo motors and can run at tremendous speeds. in the video i have set to the slowest cutting feeds. i prefer to cut slower...it uses a carbide cutting tool to just cut thru the vinyl, and not the backing. randy.
Randy, That is one COOL machine!!! I have always wanted a vinyl cutter....Maybe someday I can add one to my shop! Between that and the PP, I might never leave except to fly, LOL Tim AG4RZ
yea tim it does a good job...actually i got it for my modeling....graphics, masks, etc..... the machine will cut at over 1400ipm all directions...but thats crazy fast and run at the slower cutting speeds. here is a spec sheet for the machine. http://www.graphtecamerica.com/datasheets/GAI_CRProBrochure-2008-web.pdf
Randy, have you ever cut paper or card stock with it? Does the machine need those holes, on the sides of the material, to feed?
kwok, yes it will cut thin paper, card stock, plastic...if i recall the thickness is .010 or less. and no the perforated holes in the vinyl are foe the older vinyl cutters, they still need them. randy.
I have the Craft ROBO from Graphtec. It is limited to about a 7" width cut, but for most of the stuff I put on my planes, it is just fine and costs less than a full 24" cutter like Randys. It is great for cutting out designs printed on photo paper which can then be glued to a plane as well as doing the vinyls. Also makes a great stencil cutting tool. Oracal makes a low tack vinyl which makes great stencils for airbrushing. Lots of uses for these vinyl cutters. I have even sold a few custom lettering jobs using it.
Nice, I have a 24" Roland Camm1 vinyl cutter. I have had it for about 6 years, still working great, I would like to move up to a printer/ cutter, but I do not have the funds.
The link to the specs is broken... it looked like the 24" variety though. I wasn't even aware they made the 15". That would really be ideal for this kind of work. I frequently use the Oracal vinyl for covering my planes and the ability to cut some specific patterns of that size would be a great help.
http://stores.shop.ebay.com/USCutter-fo ... QQ_armrsZ1 they have tons of cutters for very little money
Jnida63, i would suggest anyone really interested in a vinyl cutter do your research other than looking at the price....you have to look at the components that are used. cutting vinyl is allot different that foam. i would make sure the cutter uses digital servo motors, also look at the cutting speeds... cutting pressure is not the only consideration on these machines. randy.
Hi Randy, that is cool you have your own plotter!!Its great to be able to make decals in house! I am spoiled with a local bud of mine has a graphics shop and gives me access to his 30" plotter and a 52" full color printer/plotter!! The 30" is a roland and Im not sure of the larger one!! If anyone need any large stuff done I can PM you his phone # !! John
Jnida63, Thank you I am a proud owner of a 24" uscutter plotter. Still working on the software side of it. I test cut the red Phlatboyz you see on the phlatlab table the other day when Mark and Trish stopped bye. I am very happy on the price of the cutter. The front window to my shop was busted and I need to redo the graphics. I have some other ideas for it also. I kinda wanted a printer plotter but, I could not justify the price of them. Cheers E-T
Evil-tunes, I have been using V carve pro as my vinyl cutting software. I have a 6 year old Roland 24" Vinyl Cutter, the software it came with sucks. now I can cut something on my Joe's Hybrid CNC and use the same v carve pro file to cut the vinyl that will line up perfect.
