pilot, i use a small point and shoot for my videos.....i know ther not as good as a real camcorder, but just for taking r/c movies ther fine. also you still can take good stills of your family. i have a old canon G-7 i like very much...for me i always stay with canon, i always had good luck with them. randy.

All my still shot cameras have been Canon, very good products. I have owned several of the Sony Handycams and for the price they are great cams. Very good video quality and feature packed. You can find a good one for around $125-$150.

Check out the Aiptek A-HD 720P all digital, it depends on what you are doing, but for shooting RC that on is hard to be because of the fixed focus, it won't lose the plane in the air. Down side is it shoots mov format only...
They have another model with a 5x optical zoom, which for shooting the kids will work a lot better (also 1080i), but tends to lose airplanes in the autofocus.

movies were all shot on the A-HD

Thanks TV, that is the one my Buddie used to record the speeder. It was fuzzy and just before dusk it looked like midnight, maybe he got a bad one!! Your vids look great , I will have to look into the 5xzoom so I can use it for Family stuff too!! :D

I am really digging my JVC Everio HDD camera now that I learned how to turn off the Auto focus. With the auto focus on it would lose planes all the time but now it works great. Here Is a video shot with this camera. I didn't save it in HD but it still came out fairly nice. Saved in HD the videos look twice as good but have three to four times larger file sizes.

We had emailed John our suggestion but I thought we would post it here to see if anyone has any comments on the digital cam vs. a digital video cam and the particular digital cam we recommended.

You could get a nice digital camera that also takes movies. It would use a memory stick. The down side to this camera is the inability to zoom while recording video but it would be good for family use and would still work on the plane videos. Here is a link to one we like, http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9256645&st=sony+digital+camera&lp=4&type=product&cp=3&id=1218069752429 This one is on sale for $199.00 (you can only see that once you add it to the cart. This is the newer version of the digital camera we have. If you buy this one, all you would need is one of these: (The place at the top in the front is where the lens sticks through and the camera is secure on top of your head for flight filming :)
