I picked up a working HP650C Plotter, and I am thinking of converting it is to a pseudo phlatprinter.

I will not be using any of the electronics on the plotter but will use some type of drivers to read from the sensors on the plotter and control the existing motors.

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to hack these plotters

I know that I will have to modify the feed path to get the foam to roll in flat.

    Thanks

Sounds like an interesting project but I am not sure the existing motors / drive train will have enough torque - you would perhaps just have to try it and see.

This would be a fun project. (enough torque) It may be OK for just the foam if your not creating to much drag maybe finding the right speed and going slow enough would work.
Have fun with the build Doug :good:

I will just use the existing motors for the X and Y and may do something like the punch cutter needle idea for the cutting of the foam.

I am just finishing up my CNC Table, so this will be a long term winter project, but I will keep you all informed.
