Hi guys, I am in the middle of building me OX cnc and am trying to draw a project that I have made using wood templates in the past but thought it would be a good one to try first.
I have drawn half of it and would like to duplicate it and flip it to make a full piece, is this even possible in sketch up?
I also need to add a rabbet for a piece of wood.

    Cheers

    Paul

PS would it be better if I uploaded the file?

    Hi Paul

Duplicating is easy, just copy and paste the thing you want duplicated. (triple click a face to select the entire object)
After pasting, Sketchup is in 'move' mode.
You will need to move the part to a clear area with space for the flip as it will flip around the left edge.
(keep the newly pasted object selected)
Now select the 'scale' tool, select the center square on the right edge, type -1 and press enter.
This will flip it horizontally around the left edge.
Now select the move tool, pick a point on the object that you can connect to the other part, and move it to the matching point on the original part. The mouse cursor will jump to line endings/intersections and center points of lines, so selecting a matching point is easy.

Note that you should only add SketchUcam cut lines *after* all this duplication stuff, really the last thing you do on a drawing.

If you have not watched this yet, please do so now

A quick dado method video. If your dado is simpler, the pocket tool will do it, but you still need to extend the edge to get a complete cut since Sketchucam does not understand 'edge pockets' the way some other CAD/CAM systems do.

I copy and flip parts in SketchUp all the time. I must admit I never tried swarfer's way. Never even knew it can be done this way. The way I do it is I select the object I want to flip (if you just copied it it is already selected). I right click on the selected object and in the pop-up menu I select 'Flip Along' and then I select the axis I want to flip along to. I mostly use the red and green axis. Flip Along.png

LOL, never saw that menu item before now. It only appears when the entire object is selected.

Sorry for coming back to you all so late.

I tried both ways and I could only get it to work the way TigerPilot said, Swarfer I could not get it to flip your way.

I have not tried cutting it yet as I'm still building my machine.

    Thanks for all your help

    Paul

The only trouble I'm having now is to get everything lined up and stitched together?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

lining up is made easy in Sketchup by 'inferencing', read the Sketchup help about it.
    and watch my video....
