Sketchup has no way to import pdf files in directly. The typical way to do it is to covert the pdf into a dxf, then import the dxf into Sketchup.

My understanding is that the Mac version can directly import PDF files, although I have no first-hand experience using it.

The solutions are more limited on Windows. I've had some success using pstoedit and my own dxf importer plugin (alpha version.)

The command-line for converting the pdf to dxf is:
    [pre]C:Work> pstoedit -f dxf infile.pdf "outfile%d.dxf"[/pre]

(The %d is used if there are multiple pages in the pdf - the %d is replaced with the page number.)

Here's a random pdf I found using google, and imported into SketchUp:

I've seen InkScape also mentioned for converting pdf to dxf, but InkScape exports SPLINE entities heavily which no (free) dxf importer yet supports.

However, you can still use SketchUp version 7 with the dxf importer provided by Google which should do a fine job of importing any dxf (although without text or dimension entities.)

Also, the ODA Converter can convert dxf and dwg files to other earlier versions which will import better using one of the free dxf importers. Attached files [IMG]
