I had a penchant to cut out some small parts last week, but my gantry was flopping around so much it would have been a futile effort. Having built my PhlatPrinter a while ago, and not wanting to tear it down to put in bushings and all to make it more accurate, I found a way to get around it and thought I might share it with others who are in the same boat. I simply turned the PhlatPrinter on its side and Super Glued 16 pennies to the gantry. The Super Glue sets up in just a few seconds and within 10 minutes I had a perfectly stable gantry again. Just make sure you press the gantry into the stable position you desire as you place the penny onto the MDF. Pennies are cheaper than washers now days and for less than twenty cents, you can have a highly accurate gantry. Put two pennies butted up next to each other and pressed against each of the 4 support rods both top and bottom or left and right side as the case may be. Attached files
Good idea. I dont know why I didn't think of that. I just recently bought the bushings and better rod oh well.
Flashsolutions, You rock! these are just the type of mods that make this hobby affordable for everyone to do. Just my 16 cent worth Thanks MnT
Flash, that's a great mod Thanks for sharing. I've got a little bit of play in my Y-axis that i'd like to eliminate. This is certainly a more attractive fix than ripping the PP apart and changing components. Very cool! Si.
