I just received my Phlatformer today during lunch. :D
Every thing looked good until I pulled out the last part.
Part #4 has a piece that has broken off during shipping.
I will glue it back on. I do not think it will hender the build or performance.
I would like to say that the Phlatboyz CNC cuts verry nice parts,
I hope my Hybrid CNC will cut this nice after I have finished it's upgrades.

    Mark,
What type of bit and feedrates are you using to cut these out. Attached files [IMG]

    Thanks,
Mark if you are sending me a new part #4, you may want to send me the octagon shaped part, because I glued it in the recess on the bottom of part #4.

I have a question about Part #4, is it machined correctly?
Shouldn't the counter sink for the screws be on the top.
On mine they are on the same side as the octagon shaped recess and the recess for the square nuts.

If not, I can see why you have it that way, it would require the part to be machined on both sides, you would need a jig fixture setup in order to run both sides.

I have been putting this together, dry run, to see how it builds, before painting it.
Those are some really tight tolerances on the slots and tabs.

On the packing, you could take some 1/2" foam and pocket a recess or take two layers of 1/4" foam cut out and glued up to put part #4 in.
That way the ear tabs would not get broken off. Attached files [IMG]

Yes they can be, this is due to the variations in the MDF thickness. The one we pulled for the video went together almost to loose and over time of testing we put together an average to compensate for the different thickness to ensure that no kit would be to loose or to tight.
The idea of the foam packaging is a good one and we will look into what can be done to correct this.
This is the first batch of the first kits we are producing here at Phlatboyz HQ so all this feedback will be helpful for the future of the machines produced by Phlatboyz
Thank you Travis for your help

I had my finishing guy put a few coast of clear on the waffle board,
He said it will need a lot more, MDF just sucks up the finish.
I may paint the Phlatformer with a construction theme with black and yellow warning stripes and warning lables, like "HOT DO NOT TOUCH" "KEEP CLEAR" "HIGH VACUME" and some flashing yellow leds.

I have a mod I would like to do, cut out where it says Phlatformer and add a frosted plastic piece attached from the back with black vinyl "PHLATPRINTER" across the front and have a led light box behind the plastic, so it will glow. :D Attached files [IMG]

Travis - He coated it with clear "what?" Would a thin wash of wood glue and water do the job"
I am planning to do the same thing to mine, in case I ever try to vacuum-form an egg.

If you guys really need to do an egg, I would suggest frying it in the skillet while pulling your part. Seems like a lot easier cleanup and you get to eat when your parts done. And Dennis it may help to remember the heat is turned on still- lol

    Thanks,
Mark, I got the shipping info today.
Dorsal, I will ask him tomorrow about the finish. we build custom case work for hospitals, banks, schools etc. It is some industrial finish, I am a Project Manager so I just draw the stuff, put together bill of material list, program the CNC, and deal with the General Contractors we work with. Finishing is something I would like to learn more about.

I was going to go with a construction theme for the paint, but
after I started to use the foil tape I liked the look, and it reminded me of a WWII airplane finish. :D
So I have decided to go with a WWII bomber color scheme. I will paint most of the Phlatformer an Olive Drab color, I may still add some LEDs
I have the heat shield cover done.
and since it must be removed in order to use the phlatformer I made up a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT"
vinyl sticker and I added some invasion stripes. Attached files [IMG] [IMG]

    Thanks Mark,
I am in the process of painting the cabinet and top.
I am going to use the foil tape on the "hinges" for the top.
I was at Wallmart and found these stickers on sale for $4.00
these should look good as nose art, going to put them on both sides behind the "grills"
The girls shirt is the same color as the cabinet. Attached files [IMG]

I have the first coat of paint on the lid/material holder.
I will lightly sand this and add another coat lightly sand again and than spray on a clear acrylic finish of Future floor polish. Attached files [IMG]

Guys I have the Phlatformer 016 finished all I have left to do is glue the magnets in place.
I like how it turned out. The color is Valspar Gaucho Satin.
I picked up a sample half pint size you can get at Lowes.
I added some vinyl graphics and noseart stickers. :D Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Thanks, I actually took my time painting this, I usually rush thru a project.
Now I need to stop by my plastic supplier and get a few 4x8 sheets of plastic.
I know all my flying buddies are going to want me to make all kings of parts for thier planes.
