Hey guyz. We have been purchasing our Vexta Stepper Motors from MPJA at a very good price. Unfortunately, their stock was a surplus and they don't plan on re-stocking them. We have contacted the manufacturer directly (Oriental Motor Company) and they want $79 a motor! At best, they will offer 10% off of that. Seeing as we were paying $9.95 (sometimes $8.95) from MPJA, this is a major hit for us and all future Phlatprinter customers as we are going to have to raise the price if we can't find an affordable solution. So, we are turning to all of you. Is there any way you can help us?

Preferably, we would like to have the exact motors as our build log videos reference the color of the wire and we went out of our way to make sure all wiring included with the Phlatprinter matches the motors. The best price we have been able to find is $29.95. While this is still much better than the $79 offered by the manufacturer, it will still force us to have to raise the price of the Phlatprinter. Any help you guyz could provide would be greatly appreciated!!

    Here are the motor specs:

    MFG: ORIENTAL MOTOR
    P/N VEXTA PK266-02A
    COIL: 3.6V/2A/1.8ohms/2.5mH
    TYPE: 2Phase Unipolar, 6 lead
    STEP ANGLE: 1.8deg.
166 oz holding torque in Bipolar Series and 127 oz-in holding torque Unipolar, 1/4" X 3/4" flatted steel shaft. 4 corner bolt holes. 12" leads. Can be connected as Bi-Polar.
    L: 2-3/16" (Body) SQ: 2-3/16" WT: 1.6

    HobbyCNC has steeper motors,
are they anywhere near the spec of the ones you offer in the store

#23-130-DS8 185oz-in bipolar rating, 130oz-in unipolar rating. 2.6v, 2.1A, 200 S/R, 2.1mH, Size #23, Dual Shaft, 8 wire Fastest RPM, moderate power, good for lighter duty applications. $38 each.

    or

    #23-205-DS8 285oz-in bipolar rating, 205oz-in unipolar rating. 3v, 3A, 200 S/R, 2.2mH, Size #23, Dual Shaft, 8 wire Faster than the 305’s, good all around choice $44 each

I use these in my Phlatprinter MK1

    You could also try Keling

    http://www.kelinginc.net/NEMA23Motor.html

I have some of the KL23H256-21-8B (¼” Dual shaft with a flat) 185oz-in bipolar for $27.95.
They are the same size as far as I can tell to the vextra's. The only problem is the dual shaft, that wouldn't work on the Z axis as it is, of course you could ask about a single shaft version. I don't know if Keling actually makes there motors or if they just brand them, but I've been happy with the ones I have so far.

    P/N KELING KL23H256-21-8B
    COIL: 2.583V/2.1A/1.23ohms/2.4mH (Unipolar)
    COIL: 1.86V/3.0A/0.62ohms/2.4mH (Bipolar Parallel)
    COIL: 2.19V/1.5A/1.46ohms/9.6mH (Bipolar Series)
    TYPE: Hybrid Bipolar, 8 lead
    STEP ANGLE: 1.8deg.
185 oz holding torque in Bipolar Series or Parallel and 127 oz-in holding torque Unipolar.

We want to thank you all so much for your help with this. It's awesome to know that we can count on you when we really need it.

Well, it looks like our $10 Vexta stepper motors just may be a thing of the past :( We ordered steppers from Interinar tonight (thanks for the link Kwok) at $25 a piece. It's better than not being able to get them at all but we fear this is going to drive the cost of the Phlatprinter. We have decided to give it until the end of the year. We have a lot of paperwork to go through in the meantime to verify all of our other costs and see how it has all worked out. We'll do the best we can to hold our price to ensure that we keep the Phlatprinter as affordable as possible.

We have checked out the links that everyone has provided. To be honest, we are really partial to the Vexta stepper motors and wanted to stay with these for the sake of the time and effort put into the build log videos and the fact that the steppers that we use throughout the videos are the Vextas. It looks like we are going to have to start looking around at other motor options though and perhaps include a note of change for the wiring of the motors. Who knows, maybe we can find a solution to where you don't have to figure out the wiring at all...you simply plug them in.

You guyz, we really want to say it was so awesome to see the overwhelming response here. It really shows that this is a community effort and a tight nit forum of helpful people. We love being a part of this and being friends with all of you. Thank you again so much.
