Love it! That's serious engineering! We must try to recreate it in foam.
    Thanks for sharing this Dennis

I'll have to go through my Igus catalogs to find that stuff, I don't remember seeing it. They sent me a whole set of catalogs all together about as thick as a telephone book just for getting a quote for $40 worth of energychain. And i've not bought the chain yet.

Gefahren, I was sent a link to that from Design News today, so I think Igus just released it. You'll probably need to call them to get information about it. :)

well, even at work I don't have any need for something like that. I'm just wierd enough that I actually enjoy looking at technical specs in catalogs... That Mad Scientist in me just won't stop thinking 'What If?'. It'd be scary if I had lots of money, cause I'd really build some of the stuff I design in my head.

I missed the purpose of this. Why is it so good?

For generic purposes (like our PhlatPrinters), a person would not need this e-chain, but for applications like the one in the video, or say, a motorized or telemetry system that needs to follow a conveyor belt around a corner, it could simplify cable routing.
It's an engineering thing - don't stress over it. :geek:

It's just a cable carrier, except this one is a novel design for rotary applications: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cable_carrier
