Well, as you might have noticed I'm quite enthusiastic about these models. However, I think that there are some WWII models missing from the list so I've started designing those. Here is the first attempt of a VLF version of the F4U Corsair. It's designed for 6mm depron so if you use another thickness you might need to modify the design slightly (mainly wing and stabilizator cutouts)

I haven't flown or even cut the plane yet, but it is very similar in size and layout to the others so I'm quite confident that we have an other great flying plane here. Attached files [IMG] F4U Corsair VLF.skp (1.8 MB)Â [IMG]

    Jan,
I have a VLF Corsair. Built it last year and an equally fine flyer it is. I have held it back from release due to tweaking the aileron servo setup to make it more build friendly. I also bake the wings in a jig to get the nice smooth bend in them along with a spar bending fixture to match.

Yours is looking very nice, and is very close to mine.

Here are some pics I shot last year. Unfortunately I tried a new paint process on it and messed it up. Added too much weight behind the CG. Going to make a new one and release plans.

I did a simple chuckie test without gear video.

That's looking really good. Yeah, the aileron linkage has given me a bit of a headache but I've got a couple of ideas I'm going to try. Your setup added a few thoughts as well.

Man, why does the wife have to make plans so that I can't get to the garage and start building for at least two days...

    Jan,

Looking forward to what you come up with. Posting from my home computer I wanted to show the baking jig. Also found some earlier documentation photos. Attached files [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Jan,
Thanks! It really is just some sheetmetal and plywood with a few bits of hardware. They are very easy to make.

The spar form was the toughest. I cut those troughs on a CNC machine, but it could easily be fabricated out of a couple of layers of wood.

Looking forward to that! I have yet to build my Corsair but it will be done soon. "She who must be obeyed" is working the up-comming weekend so I predict alot of hobby time ;)

    Hi Ken,

My first Phlatprinter III cut is your Mig 3 plan. Do you build the wing flat or add dihedral?

Thank you for sharing your designs!

    Doane,

I prefer the wing flat on the Mig 3. The full scale had a flat center section with a slightly turned up outboard panel. This is tougher to do here, so I just left it flat. They seem to fly equally well either way.

The Mig3 is a favorite of many people and it flys very well. Just keep the paint light.

    Hi Ken,

Flew the Mig 3 for the first time last night. Despite all my efforts to screw it up, it flew perfectly! It weighed in at 8 oz. and flew on 2 cells with my trusty DeNovo Little Screamer. Thank you again for sharing your plans.

    Now, on to the P-47!

The P-47 CNC file material appears to be larger than the useable area of a fan-fold sheet. What material do you use for cutting?

    Doane,

Happy to hear about your Mig3 experience.

I use 47" of a sheet of FFF for that bird. The way to get that much out of a sheet is to tape and extra strip to the end of the sheet. Then you can use the whole sheet. The P-40 is the same way.

What do you use to laminate them together?
Hotglue doesn't seem to work to well, i was thinking epoxy with microballoons

I use 3M 77 spray glue, foam safe CA with kicker or UHU Por to laminate. Epoxy even mixed with microballoons sounds heavy

I have been away for a bit and see that I need to rebuild the first couple of posts. It may take some time, but have been contacted by a couple members here pleading for it.

I got it figured out. Not that hard really, but sometimes the simple things elude me.

Uploaded new pictures, and the SU files into the first three posts. Leaving it to you to generate your own Phlatcode. If that is a problem for some let me know.

Please remember, these are for personal use only. I do sell kits, and it is virtually unheard of to put this stuff out there when your selling.

    Best wishes,

Hi Ken, really thanks for posting the plans,
I have seen the macchi was missing from your gallery, so here is mine. It flies on rails and rock solid even without spar.
Enough easy to cut even with a mkI

macchi 202 of the vlf series, I have cutted it from depron sheets so there isn't my single skp due to different size
I have laminated the fuse and wing with liquid polyurethane glue D4 and water drops as accelerator
