I bought a used MK2 and I'm trying to get it running. ! thing I noticed is that when the bit is raised to cutting height the Gantry (not sure of terminology here) hits the big drive roller. I attached a pic not sure if it is clear or not. It is almost touching in the pic. If I raise it anymore it rubs. So what happens is if I set Z to zero, then cut out even something small that takes about a minute, at the end the bit is too low at the end. It is hitting and missing steps. Is there adjustment somewhere that I'm missing?I guess I can sand the back of the gantry until it is clear but there must be something I can do or the previous owner could not have used it in this condition. It said for a couple years before I got it and then it was delivered by truck so I'm hoping something just got bumped along the way. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
That is a tight area for sure and it may be that the MDF is a little swollen or even that the face plate for the tool holder is sticking out a little. One other thing to try out is to make sure the bearings are seated on the rods for the Z this could cause it to be out a little as well. Other then that if the function of the Z is good an all is working I would sand it down if need be. Hope this helps.
I did not think about it swelling, good point. The machine sat for a few years before I got it so that makes sense. I'll get to sanding.
Just a thought , I wonder if the tool can be raised in the holder?? - Good thought Bruce maybe. In the pic above is the dust cover
