I think he was just giving a name. A printer that prints things that are not flat... Welcome to the forum curtish.
How about we make a combination... PhlatSeroBot or PhlatGliscoBot. Sero and Glisco are latin verbs for "grow". Same "exaugeo" is a latin verb for "grow" so .. PhlatExoBot ia an other idea.
Its obvious: Phlat3D The process is taking a stack of flat (Phlat) slices and stacking them to make a 3D object, perfectly descriptive, short and to the point.
I don't think this is BOT. From online dictionary: Bot - software program that imitates the behavior of a human, as by querying search engines or participating in chatroom or IRC discussions. - the larva of a botfly, which typically develops inside the body of a horse, sheep, or man or simmilar larva - a mild illness in humans
I am pretty sure that the way they meant it was short for ROBOT. Drop the RO and say Grow, then BOT. GrowBOT sounds like ROBOT.
Finally got a chance to watch this. Awesome. I saw the MakerBot Thing-O-Matic on the Colbert report over the weekend. They made several models (busts) of Coblert. You could take this and make pilot figures of yourself for your own airplanes or friends at your field, custom wheels, spinners, cowls, custom plastic party light covers, etc...
Mark and Trish, Just fantastic! What a great project. It is a "Must have" for me. The only difficulty I can see, is the availability of the resin. Unfortunately sourcing supply of speciality resins in Tasmania, Australia is a big problem. We get slugged for importing dangerous goods from overseas. The potential for this technology being available to the "ordinary guy" will certainly capture the imagination of all us tinkerers out there. Great site, great forum, great ideas. Thanks. I'm in!
