Whoa Shaun! I just dropped in to check things out. I somehow missed the pics before. That paint job really set that plane off. It looks ripped now. Nice work.
Thanks Buk! I have a new white Depron version in the making right now and hope to get abetter paint job on it.
This is my 3rd build of the little ripper. I have successfully ripped apart a couple of them already. Shaun, could you PM me with some of that talent? I could use some. I do have one question. The front turtle deck, do you glue it in or do you just wedge it in there? Crash5050
Haha You didn't see the magic thumb gloves I slipped on before the flight. They are special order lol. Front turtle deck??? You mean the hatch area? I glue the front section on and then have magnets holding the hatch on in the back. Attached files
MAGNETS!! I wish I would have thought of that. Also I think I have sucessfully screwed up the F-22 that Crash cut for me. I might be able to salvage it.
Wow, nice plane, mine flew great until......................................... The firewall I skimped on came apart under a hard elevator snap. (I was out of 1/16th ply) The motor rolled back and ripped the nose apart :x All the LHS and Hobby Lobby store are out of the 1/16ths stuff so I cheated by gluing a round piece of 1/8ths stuff onto the firewall.
Oh no. It looks like you brought new meaning to the name Lil' Ripper lol. I will be posting code soon for the minor updates I did that help reinforce the front end more. If you want to do another you may want to wait till I post it. Glad it flew great until that though.
Ok, I went ahead and cut a 1/4" plywood firewall for it, it needs all the weight up front anyways I made the repairs and am hoping the stupid wind dies down by tomorrow. I also pocket cut my sides so the former tabs don't stick all the way out of the sides (I love a clean side area) Oh, I also added some red stripes to the bottom for orientation against the grey skies we seem to always have here
If you look real careful you can just spot the stunt double flying that plane Nice paint work Shaun for sure.
i mean i belive it, ya know the people look like they are wearing completely different outfits wink wink.....
I got my final version of the Lil' Ripper all painted up and got a chance to fly it yesterday. A friend of mine with an awesome camera got some cool shots. I spent way too much time painting this one but I think it was worth it now. We got some more video of 3 Lil' Rippers in the air too but I still need to edit the video. We actually had 4 of us out there with them but one of the guys had a speed control problem and couldn't fly his. We had a fun day at the field. Here are a few of the photos taken. Attached files
Its a work of art... flying! Looks awesome Shaun. You have outdone your self with this one. I have got to get one of these. How long before kits are ready? Glad to see you guys having fun, looks like it was a perfect day Nice work Mark and Trish
Thanks Mark! I'm hoping to get the kits on my site tomorrow or the next day, but that depends on me getting all my ducks in a row lol. Here is the video from Saturday. We had a blast.
That was a fantastic video boyz! 5 stars! That plane flys perfect. Iol I had to laugh with you guys in the beginning when the gas plane starts up Whoever did the video did a really good job to, its hard to film 3 planes and still get footage of each one throughout. Lots of fun thank you for posting and good luck with the kit. Mark and Trish
hey Shaun, Alex got me to build one, I must say at first I thought it was nice, but then I put tape on her from tip to tip across the top and bottom. WOW! did she wake up!! rolls with snap! Now I'm no kind of 3d flyer, but this seems like a great plane to learn on. I am thinking about a symetrical AF hollowed out for weight. what cha think? Or I could leave it solid, not a huge weight difference I dont think. But if not, I just need to brace it more to get rid of the wing floping.
Well I got sucked into this one Started today. What a joy it is to start this build. Alignment is spot on. The tabbing spots are excellent. Plane is just falling together. Probably fall apart just as fast as I start flying it too  Anywho tip of the hat to Shaun.
Glad to hear it Bert. I've toyed with the idea of putting an airfoiled wing on it. If you can do one that would come out as light as a flat 6mm wing then definitely do it! I've thought about doing a 2mm or 3mm foam skinned over ribs but have found it flies great the way it is. As far as the wing flopping. In my new files it is designed for a 5mm tube. With the 5mm tube it is very stiff and none of us at the field have had the wing flop since. I'll get the new cut files posted up soon.
Cool Frank! Can't wait to hear your flight results. One thing though. You might not want the top hatch on until last. In case you don't have it here are the build instructions. http://3dmondesigns.com/documents/LilRipperInstructions.pdf
Hey wait just a minute! There's instructions?? Don't know that I could get the wing down to the same as just a flat piece of fff, but when you add in the weight of a 5mm tube, it's something too shoot for. Then again, it would have to be better than the 3/16 dowel I was using. Is the tube slot the only change?
