The Hover Hopper is an attempt at creating a hybrid hovercraft/aircraft of sorts.
We are going to take this to the indoor fly-in tomorrow night (1/14/10) and give it a test :D

This is the first prototype and there are parts that do not line up right, but I said I would post it and so here you go.
I will rework the code after testing tomorrow there may be more changes at that point.

The prop is 10x4.7 with a Blue Wonder Motor
The Skirt is made from 3mm contractor bag'
The craft is from 1/4" fan fold foam
    Have fun!

Guys we missed the indoor fly-in :(
Our family was heading back and we had to finish up the wiring on the big machine. I am happy to say its complete!
We are still going to build this ASAP and we will post the results here

Here is the latest video. We have since redesigned it and it's working much better now.
We will post the new code after we are sure its working the best it can

Ok guys we had fun with the third prototype of the Hover Hopper today :)
Just wanted to get a video of it up since we shared a little about it on the last PhlatLAB show and last night on the CrashCast.
I have more work to do on it but as ugly as it is its working pretty good now :)
I have more ideas that will make this hover/fly much better.
I think that extending the back a little more will be a big help in itself.
Its a tough craft to design because you have to consider two centers of gravity and do your best to make them converge in the design

Mark, it looks like it's tail-heavy. Move the CG forward another 1/2" or so. :)

    Will do, thanks Dorsal
The whole time we were out the the battery would keep falling off the Velcro(sticker part) I think it was due to the cold. :)

    Cool Mark.
I agree with Dorsal and think the cg could go a little more forward.

I'm thinking it being tail heavy helps the front raise up which also helps it to hop. Hover "Hopper".

Guys thanks for the help here
I was actually thinking that the skirt section should be extended back a little more. You cant really see it in the video, but If I would go full speed with the elevator pushed all the way forward, it would skim the ground without touching it like a ground effect vehicle!
So If I extend the skirt back I am thinking that it would help in keeping it level full speed. You should still be able to pull back on the stick and get hops through the air possible even better then before. We will see in the next prototype :)

Tell them to keep wishing, never underestimate the power of a dream!
In the meantime there is always a nice night out to the ice rink(If they have them there?) and then some ice cream to top it off :D
