Now you just need a vac attachment Randy.
I love the way it cut that circle.

Oh my gosh! How have I managed to miss this thread!?!?

Randy, that's awesome what you've done to your machine. My head is reeling now with ideas.

Imagine this - just behind your new overhead gantry (old "front" of machine), what if you were to put another X drive roller with a sprung pressure roller above it? You could rig up a belt to connect the two X rollers together on the end opposite the stepper and you could then cut more rigid materials like hardwoods without anything ever dragging on the cabinet!

    I'm in awe, dude!

mark and Trish were talking about a pen adaptor before for use with the phlatprinter. i decided this would be a very useful tool for qualifying cut files before cutting foam. also i already had the pens that are used on my vinyl cutter. they are like a felt tip with black ink. i cut the attachment on my phlatty using 1/16 ply. also it uses a light tension spring for the pen. i have a carrier sheet i can use from my vinyl cutter. i can stick roll paper i have to draw on. also i know i am giving up 2in on my y-axis, but was to lazy to mount to the center line of the dremel.my brother has my good camera, and i am unable to get a video of it in operation rite now. so for now here is some photos of what it looks like. peace, randy.

Wow!Randy your mods are all really coming together to make a machine with so many more capabilities! It would be cool to see a foamie plane with all plotter pen graphics on it! Sounds like that may be your next step after using the pens to check cuts.

    Thats cool Randy!
I still haven't got around to messing with the one Mark designed, but I did buy the springs with intentions to try it out. Kinda like when I bought those latches for the Phlatty with intentions to put them on LOL.

thanks Shaun...my main reason for the mod is that i always dry run my programs. with the pen, i can tell better were the cuts are going. common man, get them latches installed, lols. i am still waitin on my motor mount for my new project. and when i get rollin on it the pen mod should help me alot, as you know my programing skills are rather lame....hey great job on your speed plane project, your almost ther...randy.

if anyone recalls, i made a vacuum table stand....it was great for cutting thin pieces, but as i started to cut thicker foam not going thru, i have a big problem with debris...it just would pile up like big wads...it would clog top roller and even the z-axis, it would pile up so high....the cap from a old tide container fit on the end of the shop perfect...i mean absolutely perfect, with a light press, like it was made for it...got some plastic pipe a lil Velcro, gorilla glue, and some hose...its ratty ghetto style, but with 5hp suckin the debris is just gone. randy.

    Awesome Randy!
That was needed, especially when doing a carving. Now you just have to remember to empty the vac. :D

I am close to having this mod done on my machine, I was having problems with foam dust getting into my bushings with the gantry below the table and causing chatter.
I got tired of having to pull it all apart to clean out the bushings so I went ahead and started the mod.
I just have the belt to put on it and make the pressure roller lid.
I built mine so that it can be put back to stock if needed, I just screwed the sides onto the existing sides.
It should give me over 23 inches of width cut, I could get 24 but I don't like getting the gantry that close to the sides )

Ok, it's done except for a few little tiny things I want to do.
It isn't near as nice looking as Randy's but it works really well.

I modified the Z gantry for a removable front plate so I can switch out different things, I am going to put a plotter pen faceplate on it once I find an old plotter pen to set up Attached files [IMG] [IMG]
