    Hi all!

I wanted to cut a dremel attachment and also try the different vac setup that Slowbipe posted for the Ridgid router so I modified the lower pieces of sraighamiton's dremel attachment to suit. It worked out well: the increase in airflow definitely picks up more debris.

I had some issues generating the g-code though. I couldn't get the circular parts of the pocket in the bottom piece to generate cleanly with multi-pass on. Fine with multi-pass off but on was a no-go. I actually had to resort to a rectangular pocket in the end to get a reasonable cut file.

If anyone wants to try this attachment and you can get the pocketed piece to generate cleanly with multi-pass on I'd love to know how you did it! I'm going to post my original file with the circular pocket. If anyone wants the rectangular pocket let me know and I'll post that too.

One thing to note: I didn't tab anything because I used a fanfold carrier sheet, so you'll want to put tabs in if you're not going to do the same. Attached files Dremel attatchment-12x24-new vac mdf.skp (3.1 MB)Â

I'm not sure what the problem is. I generated the g-code in SU, I'm using 7, and it looked good in a gploter. I had cut some pockets in MDF using the multipass and had no problem with them. I think I used the offset tool to generate the lines, not a pocket tool, but I don't think that that should make any difference.

BTW, which pocket tools are you using? I don't think that I have a tool that will make this, but I could be wrong.

I did that one manually, but only because I couldnt get any of the easier ways to generate a clean cut file. I just went in and took another look and I did find some lines that needed to be cleaned up, but even after I did that I'm still getting a trainwreck of retracts and small segment cuts. Only in the pocket, nowhere else. Everything seems to be welded etc.

Ah, the retract problem. Should have said this before. :) I've mentioned the retract problem before. The fix that I had made had caused another problem, which I've mentioned here before too. I made a new fix to the retract but didn't check it out with the center line tool. Maybe I'll post the new fix in the old thread. I didn't bother because it looked like nobody cared that the cutting tool retracts constantly.

Edit: I looked at it again. We already documented that there is a problem with the center-line and fold tools when cutting multipasses. They don't cut as you would like but the end results are OK. One partial solution for your problem is to make the pocket using the offset tool. It creates a loop that the center-line tool handles better than just straight lines connected together. Another partial solution is to also use the fix I've talked about. It will prevent the constant retract. I'll post it later and just look for 'new posts'. It will still not cut a pocket one layer at a time, it cuts each pass until it reaches it's final depth and goes to the next pass, but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. :tease: :spiteful:
