finally got the canopy completed today....the blue foam was done up with two layers of glass and z-poxy. i didn't spend allot of time to finish...just slapped on some blue can paint i had laying around...the canopy helps with orientation during flight. all i really have left to do is mount a camera...also i was thinkin of springing for a fpv system. as of now I'm not sure, i will keep updated. peace, randy.

Randy the fpv system would be nice with a craft like this. You could have a blast with it!

Randy, I just watched your outdoor flight video and it looks like the tricopter flies great! The blue canopy looks good too!

got the camera mount installed today....i ran a test flight, and the tricopter lifts the 12oz. canon G-7 very easily. no strain at all. after flight test, i see the lens need a good scrubbin, lols. as of now i decided to forget about the fpv and just fly like i have been doing. beware the test video is a very boring 5 min flight in my backyard, it was just a test flight to see if the mount worked ok. i cut mount out of two 1/2in. thick blue foam. i made a joiner slot near bottom, and glued two pieces of yard stick, to tap into for the nylon bolts. it seems to work ok. im thinkin now all my other models aren't gonna see much use...man this tri is a blast. randy.

thanks Shaun. i had 3 things i wanted, but not to many funds to spend....

    ftv system
    new camera
    new jr 9503

i just pulled the trigger on a new jr 9503 radio. at first i will set-up the tri on it, because of the very fine trim settings it has...the radio i have now, has coarse clicks on it, and sometimes it will always trim one way or the other. my DX-7 works on the planes great, but one by one i will switch over models im sure, lols.. between the fpv and a new camera, i think the camera will come, as i don't have much knowledge on the fpv stuff. plus ther is less to have to carry around, lols. thanks, the mount came out rather nice and im happy with it. randy.

Randy brought the Tri-Copter to the Toledo Show to show off in the Phlat Booth. It is very impressive in person. It's quite large and surprisingly weighty. You can tell from holding it how stable the design is. Randy did a really great job with this one. Unfortunately, with the crowds and the other planes that were already hanging, we weren't able to get it hung but we're sure if we had, it would have gotten a lot of attention. We can't imagine how Randy's walk out of the Toledo Show carrying this must have been or how long it actually took him to make it out the door :) Thank you Randy for risking the Tri-Copter for the Phlat Booth :D

Agreed Mark, the crowd on Friday was pretty intimidating, just to walk through. I hadn't even thought of trying to carry a large model through that! Yeowza!  :x

LOL, Randy that was too cool! Thank you for bringing it in. A lot of folks were asking about the ability of the Phlatprinter to cut wood and it was nice to let them know the tricopters main body was cut from 1/4" ply!
This thing is so cool in real life.. Thanks again brother maybe next year we will get a chance to fly her there :D
BTW I met up with your friends Wolfgang and Bob. They were really nice and we talked for a long time. They had a lot of nice things to say about you. I talked with Bob a lot about the gigantic machines that he used in the shipyard, some of his stories were amazing.
There sure are a lot of really genuinely nice people there in Toledo area and you have a couple really good friends there.
Thanks Randy for all the help and moral support you provided again this year at the show. You are a true friend and we can't thank you enough

very slowly i am taking baby steps to learn copter flying....even thou i think i am a very accomplished aircraft pilot, the copters are a whole different animal...a friend of mine from mark and trish's state NJ. sent me two key chain cameras. i stuck one on the tri today and made a flight. the video quality as well as my flying is very poor, lols. when i get better i will fly my "good camera". each pack, i am learning more and more...who says ya cant teach a old monkey new things, lols. peace, randy.

I thought the video quality was great Randy. It looks like you are getting use to flying it.
I really should build one of these things. They seem so much better for aerial photography.

Shaun, if you do decide to build one, all i can say is your starting to learn to fly all over again, lols. but i am having so much fun learning r/c all over again. lols. best thing to do is go over and check out the multi-rotor thread on the e-zone...some good info ther....also ther is alot of new products hitting the market, and ya don't have to build one. peace, randy.

If interested in they type of craft might want to check out DIY Drones, they are getting ready to release a new kit. All their stuff is also in the public domain so it is easy to go your own way on parts and software if you want to make changes.

revamped yaw pivot....the first yaw control i built came out very cheesy....with the inspiration of blindflights quad build, i used his idea for making kydex motor mounts, and yaw control. this pivot is slop free with the actel bushings i made. this should greatly improve the control....also its lighter and stiffer with the aluminum tubing. also i finally got some nerve to fly my big camera, but the big dumb monkey forgot to turn the camera on!!!!! dohhh. a friend got a movie of the flight thou. here are some photos of my new blindflight modded yaw and motor mounts. randy.
